[quote]He had sleepers planted in the rules committee after they passed the last Saban rule. Never again!!!![/quote

...and I doubt he's ever met Calhoun other than passing by or at Coaching Clinics

People saw with who Bama reeled in this past recruiting class how Saban intends to stop the HUNH. He did a lot of evaluating his defense these last few weeks, hence the staff shake-ups. Bama now has a group of experienced guys from last yr and a couple lightning quick physical island type boundary CBs to come in with this class (1 as an EE) and beefed up the DL, added some pass rushing monsters. That will do a lot more to stop HUNH's than some idiotic 10 second rule letting coaches sub IMO.

i'm glad the ncaa is looking at doing something about the hunh. when you tell a ref to operate in a fashion that actively favors one team over another. how can you call it even remotely fair? every defense in college football operates a scheme for any given play. its one thing to beat the defensive scheme. but a defense not even being allowed to use a scheme, is something entirely different. you stop the scheme when they cant get the personnel on the field. the idea that i win because i can prevent the majority of your options from even participating, to me is just ludicrous.

It doesn't change anything. But even saying so gets you attacked by Aubs in meltdown mode.

This. Only thing better would be a rule banning stupid picture signs that are used for play formations on the side lines. Would send Au fans over the edge.

I think the proposed rule change is a bit excessive. It should only be for first downs, not every down. That being said, it's fun to argue for the rule change as it stands because it rustles a lot of jimmies.

I agree...the chains should be allowed to be set b4 the next play on 1st down is ran...that is football. Besides that, there is no real reason to slow down an offense. D's should become more multiple in their players on the field!

refs should be doing this anyway, not rushing to get the ball set as fast as one team wants it

I actually will disagree. aTm and AU are using a version of the HUNH to beat Saban and his complex defenses. So their coaches came up with a strategy to beat us and we want the rules changed?

The simple truth is they simplified the offense and at the same time simplified our defense by not allowing us to change the personal. I have no issue with it and Saban is trying to combat it with his change in type of defenders being recruited. Again my opinion but I will not get mad because an opposing staff found a way to beat us. In the end we still have 11 players on the field to defend and keep certain players from participating might be the best strategy of all.

this I do agree with only because I have seen some unsure 1st down spots because the chains were being moved while the next went on.

In the two games combined they had 1 play that was snapped before 10 seconds came off the clock.

Bama has offered four star TE Jalen Wilkerson LINK

Auburn leads. He said two weeks ago that if Auburn offered he would be close to committing.

That's five TE offers for this class. We only offered one in the 2014 class.

Yep like I posted earlier in here...those 2 offenses are tame compared to some of the West Coast teams that Calhoun is lobbying against that Air Force has to play

People on the Rant are absolutely LOSING THEIR MINDS over it though

I knew it would be rare for a team to make a snap within 10 seconds, but didn't know it was THAT rare.

I'm staying away from the Rant most of this offseason.

I remember looking at amazing stats from this yr on a BR article and 1 team IU think Wyoming maybe averaged 6 sec in between snaps on O

Chip Kelly's O at Oregon was also probably close to that number, but the 2 - 3 primary HUNH teams in the SEC aren't even close

I'm not sure what the scary thing is with the HUNH. If you have matched their personnel on first down with your package, then why the disadvantage to the defense if the offense snaps the ball quickly? Line up and play!

Personally, every time I saw AU get to the line of scrimmage and SNAP THE frickING BALL I was applauding. This modern "53's the Mike! 53's the Mike!", change formation, now set the protection, now send a man in motion, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ... offense drives me nuts.

I wish some forward thinker would do a quantitative analysis on how much tactical advantage an offense gains from changing formations/man in motion/audible-izing versus the amounts of false starts and delay of game penalties one accrues. Never mind the jump the DL gets because you snap the ball every time with 1 or 2 seconds on the play clock.
