Personally, I think the new rule against the HUNH is fricking retarded.

Agreed. At one time there was a real advantage for the defense which overall made the game better. The downside of high scoring rules is that the talent gap produces blow-outs.
I'd like to see a much closer enforcement of illegal motion, especially being 'set' for 1 second, as well as refining rules on blocking so that the offense doesn't have the natural advantage they have now.
To fix the HUNH just make the ref 'set' the ball again. Look at restricting subs like the good ole days.
also I'd like the 'LSU rule':
If a player has to have a timeout to stop play he can't return until possession changes.

BR article on 4 star DE Michael Barnett
LINK
quote:
A hurtful recruiting loss for the Virginia Tech Hokies could be a significant gain for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Andrew Bone of Rivals reported Thursday evening that 247Sports Composite 4-star defensive end Michael Barnett decommitted from Virginia Tech just one day after receiving a scholarship offer from 'Bama.
Barnett, the No. 16 strong-side defensive end in the nation, was the top commitment in Virginia Tech's 2015 class.
He talked to Ryan Bartow of 247Sports Wednesday about receiving the offer from Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide and noted that he'll likely head to Tuscaloosa for Junior Day on March 1:
I talked to (linebackers) coach (Kevin) Steele a little bit. He said they watched my film and really liked me. Coach Saban told me he gets the best coaches to help his players get to the next level. He said his main focus is to develop you as a person. He told me about the things they have on campus for academics and things to help you get ready for the world.
I thanked him for the opportunity to play at the school. He said they are going to start recruiting me and he wants me to come up there.
The 6'4", 248-pound end is the No. 7 prospect in the state of South Carolina. On paper, Barnett is a very impressive prospect. According to Bartow, he can bench press 295 pounds, squat 405 pounds and power clean 290 pounds. He also runs a 4.7-second 40-yard dash and holds a 3.7 GPA.
He is impressive statistically, as well. He recorded 89 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, seven sacks, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries as a junior, as well as 57 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 12 sacks as a sophomore.
Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times noted that VT is still on Barnett's list even with the decommitment.
The Hokies currently have no other defensive line commitments in their 2015 class.
Alabama already claims two defensive line verbal commitments in its class: 5-star and No. 3 strong-side defensive end Mekhi Brown and 4-star defensive tackle Jonathan Ledbetter.
Barnett also holds offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State and others.
Whichever program pulls in the Dorchester, S.C., native will be landing one of the top players in the 2015 class.

Tim Settle article on al.com
LINK
quote:
MANASSAS, Virginia -- The Crimson Tide reeled in one of the nation's most elite defensive prospects last week when Woodbridge, Va., star Da'Shawn Hand put pen to paper on National Signing Day.
Now that the focus has turned to the 2015 recruiting cycle, Alabama appears to be in the running for yet another blue-chip star from the Old Dominion.
With more than 40 offers, defensive tackle Tim Settle of Stonewall Jackson High is being targeted by programs across the country.
Settle is planning to visit Tuscaloosa agin in April.
Alabama was the first major offer the 6-foot-4, 307-pounder received, and his recruitment took off shortly thereafter. He made his first trip to Tuscaloosa over the summer to check out the Alabama campus, and he is planning on returning soon.
"It was fun," Settle told AL.com on Wednesday. "I enjoyed it. I went down with my coach and plan on going back there in April. I got to play in the arcade, talk to Coach (Nick) Saban and I met a lot of recruits. Everything was great."
Settle's head coach, Mike Dougherty, said Alabama linebackers coach Lance Thompson has visited Settle multiple times since the trip.
"Alabama is doing all the right things and they know what they're doing," Dougherty said. "When the national champion at the time offers you a scholarship and Saban does it himself on the phone, that's really something. Not every kid gets to experience that. I would say Alabama is definitely in the mix."
Some recruiting experts believe Alabama, Ohio State and Virginia are currently leading the race for the consensus five-star prospect, but don't expect a commitment any time soon. Settle said he plans on announcing his pick during the 2015 Under Armour All-America Game in St. Petersburg, Fla.
In the near future, Settle plans on taking trips to Tennessee this weekend, West Virginia on Feb. 22 and Virginia on March 8.
"I'm going to be open with everybody," Settle said. "That's what I plan on doing. It will give me some time to think about where I want to go. I'm just going to enjoy the process and be fair with every school."
Dougherty feels Settle is doing the right thing by staying patient.
"He stays in touch with coaches all the time," Dougherty said. "He's going to junior days at different schools. During spring break he and his dad will visit as many as they can from here to Miami. He's investigating all the schools that are interested. His top five change all the time."
Settle is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the nation's No. 13 overall prospect in the 2015 recruiting class and the No. 4 defensive tackle prospect. He tallied 60 total tackles (27 for loss) with 12 batted-down passes, five sacks, two forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles in 2013.
"His explosiveness off the ball and his ability to disrupt are what makes him special," Dougherty. "He's like a hand grenade going off when he comes out of his stance. For a kid with his size to be that athletic... there's only 10 kids across the country who can do what he does. That's what the recruiters keep telling us."

Damn, not that we will land everyone of course but its hard to believe we are in Saban's 7th/8th cycle and we are really attracting kids like we are. Recruiting is so awesome right now.

WR Daylon Charlot 6-0/190 Patterson HS
Charlot committed to Alabama a couple of weeks back when the Crimson Tide offered at junior day. Expect LSU to offer and for wide receivers coach Adam Henry to put the full court press on. We aren’t expecting Charlot to reverse course from his Bama pledge just because LSU offers. However, there will be twists and turns with his recruitment and LSU is far from out of the mix.
But, but, but their are 11 WRs in the state of Louisiana better than Charlot in the 2015 class.
quote:
Morgan and Daylon Charlot bring a lot of the same skills to the table, but Charlot is a little more elusive and runs better.
Isn't this Morgan kid the one the LSU fans were all claiming was head and shoulders above Charlot the day he committed?

Justin Hilliard announced his top 15, in no particular order, on Friday morning. The teams remaining are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, South Carolina, Texas A&M and USC.
Does he really need to announce a TOP 15???

Daylon Charlot said he grew up rooting for Alabama.
He may go to LSU's Junior Day this weekend, but he may not.
He says he is solid.

We are gonna see more and more kids saying something like "I grew up rooting for Bama." Most kids in school right now have been immersed with the team's success. Lots of people are Yankee fans that didn't grow up there.
