I like Barnett. I think most of his issues are fixable, and I think he has a lot of upside. I try to look at it like this: even if we didnt't get a competitive qb in 2015 there's no guarantee that we would've pulled Eason. West coast qbs gonna west coast. Heck Barnett may west coast on us
Eason might decide to go to stanford or he might get a girlfriend who wants to go to Washington ala Stidham to Tech.
Barnett is better than Sills and Dormady, and equal to Waller IMO. He's the best option we have. In all likelihood Morris is gone after this year and you never know if Bateman doesn't want to wait around for his turn. We could be looking at having just Cornwell and Coker in 2015 or if Coker didn't win the job he'd be gone and we would have Cornwell and Bateman. Two quarterbacks against SEC competition?

I just prefer the kids with solid mechanics over the "potential" guys.
Barnett may turn out to be a stud, but he also may turn out to be a bust.
I believe Eason is the better player.
We don't need a Manziel to be effective. We need a mechanically sound passer who understands the game.

What do y'all think of Bell, Jennings and Curtis?

I have zero inside information, but I thought Eason was going to be a tough pull regardless of who we signed this class.
If Eason had narrowed it to us and UGA, his quotes (e.g. "how their QB's have been drafted lately") and just the overall feel led me to believe he was a UGA lean.
I hope he still commits to the good guys, but I would not pass on a talent like Barnett just for a chance at someone else a year down the road.
Barnett was my top uncommitted QB.I thought we had zero chance. I am a happy camper.
I am no TS regarding QB evaluation, but Barnett is my #2 overall QB in this class. FWIW, I would take Barnett over Ricky Town all day evary day.

I don't think some of yall are looking at it correctly. Barnett needs lots of work. But not much will be asked of him for a few years so he has time. Probably a perfect chance for him to develop. Coker will start 2014 and 2015. In 2016 Cornwell or Bateman will probably take over. Don't count out Bateman. Barnett can come in and redshirt 2015, sit 2016, sit 2017, then Battle for the starting job with 2 years of eligibility. I don't know if that's exactly what we sold him on but I imagine a guy like Saban covers all bases. He covers the the base I just said as a backup plan but explains since he is enrolling early he will at least be put into a position to have a chance earlier on. My $0.02

Assuming Coker stays two years, my money is on Barnett being the starting QB after Coker.
Posted on 6/19/14 at 11:27 pm to BlackPawnMartyr
I doubt he was told he would sit for 3 years. im sure saban told him there is possibly a chance of coker going pro this year and he could compete with bateman and cornwell next year being is he is enrolling early. qb's have big egos and do not go from the west coast to t-town to sit 3 years knowingly . just my $.02

I don't see Barnett beating Bateman.
Posted on 6/20/14 at 6:22 am to Tide or Die87
I don't think he will have to beat out Cooper, the competition Barnett will have will be with David Cornwell and it all depends on Barnett's development since he has such a high ceiling.
Cornwell is an animal though, right now and doesn't need much development in the way of passing skill or motion etc. the hurdles he might have is trusting his knee and some honing in of his accuracy. With Barnett it's gonna be much higher hurdles but he seems to be the type of very bright young man who will get there. I'm gonna love to see him in the all-star setting simply because it won't be his same zone read spread option look on O that his HS operates now.

Non-VIP post from "My name is Earl" on BOL:
quote:
I spent the last couple days with a Bama starting player. He said I could share but just didn't want his name out. So if you know me please don't mention the players name in comments.
I have been a Bama fan all my life and it was always a dream to tour the facilities and I was able to do that. Bucket list kind of stuff. I belong to 3 Bama sports sites and its good to give something back.
He said it thinks this is the best team he has been on and he's won 2 NC. He said they are united.
The team is 0 and 2 and the coaches remind them of that all the time. They get along and not much infighting or division.
Things you already know, but the Dline is going to be sick. They are so deep. He said the Oline is going to be great too. He loves the competition there. Said he believes it will be 2 deep too. He raved about one Olineman in particular but it wasn't who I expected. It’s Josh Casher. He said he may be a freshman but he will get playing time this season and will start in future at right guard or center. He said in 7 on 7 that Casher is a beast. He is hard as hell to get around. He may be 6’1 but he is so quick that he gets his hands on you fast and controls you. He’s very strong. I actually got to meet Casher Tuesday night. They had mandatory study hall from 7-9 and I was outside Bryant Hall and Casher comes walking out at 10:15. He had been writing a paper. He was super nice and is funny. He has a weird southern voice that’s hard to describe but he imitates people and is very funny. People love him. I told him my friend, that was with us, was raving about him earlier, and they started talking but basically Casher said in 7 on 7 he is mainly working on his pass blocking and if other player thinks he’s good with that then wait to you see his run blocking. I’m excited about him. Marlon Humpries came walking up and started talking to us too. I kind of freaked then but tried to be cool. Got a picture with all of them. Nothing to report on Marlon except he was playing pool the next day and was talking trash with other players over pool. They play pool all the time. They just goof off like they are pool champ and if you win you control the table. All good fun. But they need to replace the felt on pool tables and get new sticks. So if anyone reading this with connections get it done. It’s ridiculous those pool tables don’t look brand new every week. I know players wear them out fast but who cares. They play every day. Recruits see that. Shouldn’t be coming apart.
OJ Smith was watching players play pool and he just smiles and is very friendly. Like a big kid. He is huge but of course it’s not good weight. He is going to require 2 blockers in a couple years though.
D Henry came in pool room and I got pic with him. I didn’t ask for pics with all the players I met because didn’t want to be a dork but I had to with a few. Anyway, D Henry looks like a giant next to me. I’m 5’11 and just looked like a mouse. He was very quiet.
Also, met and talked to Robert Foster. He looks game ready. Muscular. Going to be future star. No Homo but Foster is very nice looking with great smile, just like Marlon. Those 2 are just going to be beating off the women. I say that because some of those players are ugly. LOL OK enough of that.
DJ Pettway is a beast. Very grateful to be back and very humbled. Said he was in a bad place leading up to the trouble and that was the worst. When you go from Bama to JUCO and the team can barely afford water you know how good you had it. He let the team, his family and fans down and regrets it more than anything. He is doing everything he is suppose to do and that experience has made him a better person. I really liked meeting and talking to him. Very Humble. Players all love him.
His JUCO teammate J Reed is a beast as well and will start if he does the things he’s suppose to do. Let’s just say he isn’t in JUCO anymore and he’s starting to realize that. Reed is very loud, very charismatic. Just like Rueben Foster, who I met as well. I wanted a pic with him bad but we were in the locker room and players everywhere so I didn’t want to ask but I regret it now.
Saw Tony Brown laying on the couch, which are these leather sectionals, and he was watching TV. Another player comes up messing with him lifting up his section likes he’s going to tip it over. Being playful. Was good to see. I met Tony and said “How’s your Dad doing?” He looked at me like “who the hell is this guy”? That look my kids friends give me when they think I know their parents, but I just know about the stroke and story because of sites like this. Anyway, he said his Dad was good. I said I’m sure he enjoyed seeing you Aday and what a exciting moment it was when he committed on TV. He just said it was great and he was glad. Didn’t really say much. But I didn’t expect him too. More on him playing 2 sports in future post, but it’s very hard. He’s trying to run track and has to also complete 4th qtr program. He doesn’t get a pass on that just because he was running track. So when your legs are dead from 4th qtr program and you’re trying to jump hurdles what happens??
Wide Receivers are going to be so good that anyone could pass to them. I met all the starters and Black. My friend loves Raheem Falkins too. Said he was “the truth”.
I could write 5 more pages but will stop and write some more tomorrow. Still lots to talk about. But will leave it with Blake Sims.
Sims had a great spring according to my friend. He was hitting everything. Players love him and my friend still thinks he could start. Said A-day was messed up. Elaborated on the reasons why but I don’t feel like putting all that in to words because I wouldn’t do it justice.
Said Coker looks awesome too. Receivers really like him and he can throw. Nothing you haven’t already heard. Also, likes Bateman a lot.
Last thing. Cooper can’t be covered. He is best receiver he has seen. Was injured a little last year, as you know. Said none of our receivers are going to be covered. They are so deep and it just makes the corners better. I’ll get to them next time.
Sorry I wrote so much. RTR

Barnett blurb from a Brady White article:
quote:
He outdueled fellow 4-star prospect Blake Barnett in the 2013 opener against Santiago High School. White was 35-of-46 for 471 yards and three touchdowns while adding two more scores on the ground in a 56-49 victory.
Barnett, who spent seven months committed to Notre Dame before backing out of the verbal pact in June, also impressed with six touchdowns. The two square off again Sept. 26 in a rematch that should attract plenty of attention.
"Reporters are definitely going to make a big deal about the matchup and compare everything we do," White said. "They'll try to make it out to be me versus Blake. I can't worry about that stuff. At the end of the day, you judge a quarterback by the win column."

Free 247 article regarding the class of 2016's updated rankings:
LINK
LINK
quote:
There is another quarterback battle heating up in the class of 2016. Following a banner year for quarterbacks in the 2015 class, Lake Stevens, Wash. quarterback Jacob Eason took the early pole position as the top arm in the country in the 247Sports rankings for 2016. He now has company in the five-star ranks.
Westlake Village (Calif.) Westlake quarterback Malik Henry is the lone addition to the five-star ranks in the latest update to the Top247 for 2016 and he checks in as the No. 4 overall prospect in the country, one spot behind Eason at No. 3.
The move comes after Henry put together a brilliant performance at the Sound Mind Sound Body Camp in Michigan. He’s also landed offers from more than 15 big-name programs nationally this spring and summer including Florida State, Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State, Tennessee and more.
Henry and Eason aren’t the only big arms on the west coast though. Also making moves up the rankings is Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic quarterback KJ Costello. Costello has also been earning offers from just about every major program that watches him throw and he brings the whole skillset to the table from arm to size to athleticism.
The biggest quarterback debut in the rankings though comes from Dwayne Haskins out of Maryland. Haskins was fantastic at the Elite 11 this spring and shows a lot of ability on film from both an arm and athleticism standpoint. He checks in at No. 42 nationally and has 100 percent of his Crystal Ball picks pointing him towards Ohio State.
Three new quarterbacks from the state of Texas also join the list. Shane Buechele out of Arlington Lamar makes the highest debut out of the Texas arms, checking in at No. 139 overall with limited size but all kinds of arm talent and athleticism. Baylor commit Zach Smith and Marble Falls native Brennen Wooten also debut in the rankings at No. 141 and No. 184.
Below we take a look at some of our other notable additions to the Top247 rankings:
Ben Davis, LB, Gordo, Ala – No. 26 overall, Davis will be battling Lyndell Wilson for the title of best linebacker in Alabama and maybe best linebacker in the country.
Marquez Calloway, ATH, Warner Robins, Ga., – No. 40 overall, Calloway was a stud all over the field as a sophomore and he was a standout on the basketball court after the season. He’s been backing that play up this spring and is drawing Malcolm Mitchell comparisons.
George Hill, RB, Hubbard, Ohio – No. 43 overall, Hill committed to Ohio State recently and it takes one look at his film to realize the Buckeyes got an elite back.
Saivion Smith, CB/ATH, Tampa (Fla.) Lakewood – With elite size and athleticism, Smith could play a lot of positions but we like him at cornerback and think he could continut to rise even higher. He’s currently No. 59 overall.
Josh Brown, DE, Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek – Brown impressed 247Sports analysts at the recent Florida State prospect camp with his athleticism and explosiveness. We expect him to quickly add a slew of major offers.
Trayvon Mullen, Coconut Creek (Fla.) – Mullen is one of several really talented big corners in Florida for 2016 and his spring game performance put him on our radar. With offers from the likes of Clemson and Kentucky, his stock is on the rise.
Patrice Rene, Ontario (Can.) St. Peter Catholic – Following in the footsteps of 2015 stud Neville Gallimore, Rene is the second consecutive Canadian to land in the Top247. Early offers from Ohio State, Syracuse, Rutgers and others back up the big cornerback’s ranking.
Damian Alloway, APB, Summit, Calif – Alloway has offers from Cal and UCLA and shows off big time ability on film. He’s also got elite speed and has run in the 10.7 range in the 100 meters as a sophomore. He lands at No. 78 overall.
Dee Anderson, WR, West Mesquite, Texas – Debuting at No. 86 overall, Anderson has drawn comparisons to class of 2015 standout Damarkus Lodge with regards to the way he has emerged in the spring. Look for a breakout fall from the big target.
