As AlabamaINTEL reported in our feature earlier this week: UA QB Recruiting: The Week of Reckoning, the picture at signal caller would likely play itself out and clear up by the end of the weekend. The pecking order seems to have emerged as Corona, California’s Blake Barnett and his family had the red carpet rolled out and were blown away according to excellent sources.

Coming into the weekend, the childhood favorite Oregon Ducks were thought to be the heavy favorite with Barnett still considering Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss. He was set to visit the other three SEC schools after stopping by the Capstone this past Thursday. But the trip went so well that the other three stops on his Southeastern tour were cancelled as the Crimson Tide made a HUGE move in Barnett’s recruitment. He and his family stayed for almost three days (Thursday-Saturday) after the original plan was for one and he left on Saturday wearing an Alabama polo.

The Crimson Tide staff, led by Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin blew the family away with the overall organization of the program. The player development on the field, the character development off of it and the academic programs/support that are in place for athletes. Has Alabama surged to the forefront in his recruitment? All we know at this point is that Barnett and his family are not talking at this time.

AlabamaINTEL spent the majority of the weekend with a great source who tried to put us in touch with Barnett’s father, but the interviews will decease until he make his final announcement this summer. All signs point to Alabama now being in REALLY good shape but a visit to Oregon looms next week…stay tuned!

Servite High School’s Travis Waller visited for three days as well as he and his mother paid their own way to the Capstone. The Wallers stayed from Tuesday night through Friday before flying back. Sources say the trip went very well and Alabama is likely among the top two with Notre Dame being a late entry. The Irish will get a visit later this month and ironically offered following the recent de-commitment of the above-mentioned Barnett. Waller is very academically oriented so the ND education will be appealing and is the main reason Northwestern has been a major factor in his recruitment.

Ohio State has already taken an in-state QB in Athens, Ohio, star Joe Burrow, so the Buckeyes would seem to a longshot though Waller has a good relationship with the OSU staff. Alabama and the Irish seem to be the favorites, though it looks like Barnett is ahead of Waller in the pecking order. The next 10 days will likely decide Barnett’s future, either with UA or the Ducks, but it will be interesting to see how the Anaheim, California, native’s trip to South Bend goes and if Alabama can still land him should Barnett choose Oregon.

So far, Waller has not spoken about his recruitment and looks to not be doing interviews much like Barnett. Regardless, UA blew Waller and his mother away and the Crimson Tide has a very good shot to sign of these two top QBs. Both are dual-threats with huge upsides that would be very good additions to the 2015 class

David Sills, the long-time USC Trojan commitment with a history with Lane Kiffin, made his second trip to the Capstone with his 7-on-7 team. His mother was with him on the trip and word is she strongly wanted an Alabama offer for her son, but that is unlikely to take place. Frankly, the Elkton, Maryland, native is a notch below Barnett and Waller in terms of ability as a prospect. Should both Barnett and Waller not choose Alabama, which seems unlikely, the UA staff should pass on a QB in the 2015 class and take another prospect at a need position such as defensive back or offensive line.

Daron Payne and teammate Keith Mixon, who clocked a 4.4 at Alabama’s first elite camp in June, worked out for strength coach Scott Cochran after traveling to the Capstone with their head coach, former Alabama punter Bill Smith. Speculation lately has Payne pushing to be a package deal with Mixon. The 5’9 170 pounder will be a slot receiver and kick returner in college and had a monster 2013 season.
The junior totaled 1,177 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns and averaged 9.6 yards per carry. As a receiver he caught 48 passes for another 910 yards, averaging 19 yards per reception and scoring another 14 touchdowns through the air.
The explosive athlete also averaged 40.8 yards on kickoff returns for another 735 yards and three scores, highlighted by a 96-yard kickoff return brought back from the corner of the field against top-ranked Hoover.
His season totals: 2,822 all-purpose yards and 35 touchdowns on 189 touches, which averages a staggering 14.9 yards every time Mixon touched the football.
Payne’s profile as a prospect has been high since last summer, and despite being somewhat raw, he had 65 tackles, 16 for losses and three sacks during the Mounties breakout 2013 season. His weight room prowess is becoming the stuff of legend, as he currently benches an amazing 450 pounds with a power clean of 345. Both should be takes in the 2015 class for Alabama in INTEL’s opinion.

Mixon could be a maze type player but not play as much receiver. Just be a KR/PR

With spots this tight, are we really going to play the package deal game?

Although it is weird that we haven't been pursuing a running back lately, at least publicly. Gibson looks like he is headed to Miss State. The last interview with Kerryon said that he hadn't heard from our staff in a month. The Jovon Robinson ship has sailed, as it should with our depth at running back and a one year starter. Damien Harris is slim to none with him probably headed to tOSU. Rodney Anderson committed to the Sooners last week.

Does Kiffin really feel that we will be able to hang on to all of our running backs? Yeldon and Drake are gone after this year. We would be left with Henry for one year, tencent, Tyren Jones, and Bo Scar. I see one of Tyren Jones or Tencent transferring, maybe both.

drake wont be gone. Not sure he gets enough touches to make him declare. if he goes it is because he is unhappy with touches and transfers out.

With Daron Payne? Abso-fricking-lutely

It solves the 0 tech NG player Bama hasn't seen as an impact player since Chapman and/or Cody and he's heavier on the scale than Chapman

Payne is like a 325 - 40 (because he'll add weight and play at that at Bama) faster more athletic Chapman with the same strength level, demands a double EVERY play at least

I'd take the rest of Payne's DL and OL at SVHS to land him

Bama NEEEEEEEDS him so bad in this class

Drake will be a Junior this year, right? That would mean he'd have to transfer down a division to play unless he graduates this year, and he doesn't strike me as the type of academic achiever to be able to graduate a year early, given the fact that he was forced to miss practice during the spring to make up some school work.

What would get him more exposure? Transferring down or staying in the rotation at Bama?

It'd be a departure from what we've seen our guys do in the past, but I could see Drake going pro after this season even if he's 2nd or 3rd in the rotation. It's happening more and more across college football and there's no denying his talent

And when your OC remarks that you're part of a backfield as talented as any in the NFL, why waste time in college?

this thread is running about 45% or so more posts than last years Megathread on the same date, if the trend continues, (and the post count picks up as we near NSD, like it did last year) this thread should hit around 1500 pages GOAT

Drake isn't going pro this year. His carries will be up by 25 percent if he stays with henry for his senior year. It'll be 60-40 henry then. Barring Bo Scarbrough blowing up. On top of all that RBs don't get drafted high anymore so he might as well go in a draft class that doesn't include his own teammate, Todd Gurley, etc

Don't forget his propensity to find himself in Saban's doghouse. He might seize the opportunity to move on especially if he's not going to be the featured back.

I would be surprised if Drake didnt go pro. He is uber talented, and doesnt seem like the type that is going to stick around.
