At 6'3" and 318 pounds, Tim Settle is another powerful 5-star defensive tackle in the 2015 class. The Virginia native has quick and heavy hands, which he uses as weapons after the snap.

He can anchor with great strength versus running plays, and he also can push the pocket from the interior as a pass-rusher. Tennessee leads schools such as Clemson, Alabama, Florida State and Oklahoma State, per 247Sports.

Lotta bad smoke going around Settle right now.

Justin Hilliard is a 5-star linebacker who will be a star in college. The Cincinnati native is a terror on the second level who loves to attack.

Hilliard, who is 6'2" and 230 pounds, can hold his own versus offensive linemen at the point of attack. He quickly sheds blockers before using his short-area quickness to surge to ball-carriers. He also can squeeze the pocket from the edges.

Notre Dame, Michigan, Iowa, Alabama and Ohio State are his top schools, according to 247Sports.

He's gotten a lot of CBs to Ohio State recently.

While he can play defensive tackle in a 4-3 scheme, Daron Payne may be better suited as a defensive lineman in a two-gap scheme. His strength, power and heavy hands are all impressive.

Payne, who is from Alabama, is 6'2" and 316 pounds. The 5-star prospect has adequate quickness at the snap, and he plays huge at the point of attack. While Texas is said to be in the hunt by 247Sports, this race will come down to Auburn and Alabama.

A 5-star defensive end from Florida, Byron Cowart is a terrific prospect who can also kick inside to make his presence felt. The 6'4", 250-pounder can punch a blocker and set the edge with ease versus a running play.

He also does a great job of converting speed to power as a pass-rusher, which usually results in him walking an offensive lineman deep into the pocket. Becoming a permanent defensive tackle is not out of the question for Cowart right now.

Oregon leads Florida, Alabama and Clemson, per a report by Woody Wommack of Rivals.com (subscription required).

He reaffirmed that Oregon was his leader in the last week.

Kendall Sheffield is a 5-star recruit based solely on pure athleticism. However, he also great cover skills to menace receivers all over the field.

Sheffield, who is from Texas, is 5'11" and 180 pounds. He has outstanding speed and quickness, which is why he will be able to play on the field side of the defense on critical downs. When he becomes more willing to peel off the perimeter to support the run, he will truly start to become a complete cornerback.

Texas A&M, Texas, Alabama, LSU and several others are among Sheffield's top schools, per 247Sports.

Don't really hear much about him either.

Malik Jefferson is a linebacker from Texas who is so athletic that he can fit into any type of defensive scheme. He can rush as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme and has the skill set to play all three linebacker positions in a 4-3 alignment.

At 6'2" and 225 pounds, the 5-star prospect is simply a stud. He'll need to improve his ability in coverage, but Jefferson could be ready to help as a true freshman.

Alabama and Texas A&M are standing out, per 247Sports, but many other schools still have a legit shot.

After mentioning Jefferson a bunch Andrew Bone said last week that a source told him Malik probably won't leave the state of Texas.

CeCe Jefferson is a defensive end who can get to the quarterback with quickness or power. He has the strength to anchor and shed versus running plays, and the Florida native is also capable of playing inside.

Jefferson, who is 6'2" and 250 pounds, can convert his speed to power with ease as a pass-rusher. He's one of the most versatile defensive prospects in the nation.

A variety of schools will be in and out of the mix for him, but it would be shocking if the 5-star recruit didn't sign with Florida.

Alabama hasn't had much difficulty signing top recruiting classes during Nick Saban's time in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama signed the nation's top recruiting class the last four recruiting cycles and is on pace to do so again with the class of 2015.

Penn State coach James Franklin said recently that Alabama got some help from the NFL in its most recent recruiting class.

"We had the No. 1 recruiting class in the country for a while there, but then Alabama had their spring game," Franklin told USA Today Sports. "During the spring game they convinced five current NFL players to commit to them, and they passed us by. So we've got a little bit of work to do now."

Franklin was being facetious, of course, when he made the comments during a recent Penn State caravan through the state of Pennsylvania. Alabama didn't land any current NFL players during its spring game, though it did receive commitments from one five-star and three four-star recruits.

Penn State currently has the nation's second-best recruiting class, according to 247Composite, with 16 commitments.

Franklin laid out some of his recruiting strategy in the USA Today article, namely how no coach handles a prospect by himself, and how a recruit must pledge a commitment to at least two coaches. The former Vanderbilt coach also puts major emphasis on his assistants being active on social media.

Franklin might not recruit Alabama much going forward while at Penn State, but he signed two Alabama players in his first recruiting cycle at the Big Ten school. Central-Phenix City defensive back Christian Campbell told AL.com last week that Franklin played a big role in his decision to eschew other options and head to a school more than 800 miles away.

Tony Brown, S

Height, weight: 6'1", 175 pounds

Rated as the No. 9 player overall and the second-best safety in the country, Tony Brown could be the next great Alabama defensive back. The 5-star recruit from Texas enrolled early, and his time with the Crimson Tide during spring practice puts him in great position to contribute right away.

He will get a chance to work with and alongside rising star Landon Collins at safety, and that duo should once again put Alabama among the nation's best in terms of pass defense.

When did Tony Brown move to Safety?

Thanks for the updates!!

Didn't know Okie St. already had one commit.

I am hoping for him, but like I said a few pages back, I am not hearing buzz relative to any QB and us. Whoever we land will likely be a surprise to me.

No problem. Murray's announcement this afternoon is going to tell us a lot about our QB recruiting moving forward IMO.

This week marked the 100-day countdown to the start of the 2014 college football season. Abilene Christian visits Georgia State to kick things off on Aug. 27, when the road to the inaugural College Football Playoff begins in earnest. Catch up on TV shows now. Try new restaurants, or pick up new hobbies, or spend time with the in-laws. In a little over three months, college football — in all of its glory — will return.

Over the course of this week, Campus Union is unveiling the 100 things it is most excited for in the 2014 campaign.

32. T.J. Yeldon and Derrick Henry in the same backfield. Over the last few seasons, Alabama has consistently featured two great backs: Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson, Richardson and Eddie Lacy, Lacy and Yeldon. The Crimson Tide’s 2014 tandem could be the best of the bunch. Yeldon averaged 6.0 yards per carry last fall while rushing for 1,235 yards and 14 touchdowns. Henry broke out in the Sugar Bowl for 161 all-purpose yards and two scores. Saban, who isn’t known to dish out compliments, told reporters Henry had a “fabulous spring.” Defenses, you’ve been warned. – Ben Glicksman

quote:

6. Alabama’s Lane Kiffin experiment. Wait, could this actually work? Say what you will about Kiffin’s tumultuous head-coaching stints, but Alabama’s new coordinator has proven his X’s-and-O’s acumen. The Crimson Tide lose quarterback AJ McCarron. They bring back T.J. Yeldon, Derrick Henry, Amari Cooper and O.J. Howard. Without the distraction of addressing the media (Nick Saban’s policy for assistants), can Kiffin help ‘Bama rebound from the two disappointing defeats that closed out last season? – ZE

3. The Iron Bowl rematch. Where were you when the unthinkable happened last season?

As with every year, there should be plenty of intrigue surrounding the 2014 Iron Bowl. For Auburn, it will offer a chance for Gus Malzahn to prove that, just maybe, he has Saban’s number. For Alabama, it will serve as an opportunity to exact an oh-so-sweet measure of revenge. Both programs could be in the national title picture. Neither will be lacking for motivation. Kickoff is set for Nov. 29 in Tuscaloosa. Mark your calendars now. – ZE

Marlon's measurables, not Tony's.

Neither will end up at Safety.
