Following his Elite-11 performance Friday night, Servite (Calif.) Anaheim quarterback Travis Waller said Alabama has offered.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder has become one of the most coveted quarterbacks in the nation. Ohio State and Oregon are also showing interest and could be near an offer.

The Ducks are the team to beat, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

So it begins...

Scouting report on Waller:

quote:

If this was any other year, there would be more attention on Servite quarterback Travis Waller. Unfortunately for him, he is in a recruiting class that is loaded with quarterback talent in California so he’s mostly a forgotten young man compared to some other players who play in his same division in high school.

He’s a talented prospect though and deserves to be in the conversation as one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in this recruiting class.

Height: 6’3?

Weight: 190

Athletic ability/measurables

Waller is not lacking in height as a quarterback, but he is small right now with a pretty slight frame. He’s never going to be a huge guy, but will need to add some weight to absorb the punishment he’ll endure as a runner.

It’s as a runner where it is evident what a great athlete he is. He doesn’t look overly explosive in terms of his speed, yet he is able to run away from defenders in probably the most talented league in California.

Skills/technique

Like most of these California quarterbacks, Waller has solid mechanics. Has a good release and good arm strength. He is balanced in the pocket and throws an accurate deep ball. The one question I have for him as a thrower is that I mostly saw him throw to his first read. He didn’t have to go through his progressions often to find other receivers. A lot of that had to with him having a clean pocket and his receivers running free, but I’d like to see how he handles adversity in the pocket a bit more than what I’ve seen.

When he throws on the run, his balance and footwork need some cleaning up, but I don’t think that will be an issue with him going forward.

Waller looks great as a runner. He reads his blocks well and knows when to turn it up and run. That is what enables him to be a big play threat with his feet just as much as his speed. There might be other more dynamic athletes in terms of change of direction in the open field, but Waller is an efficient athlete.

Scheme fit

Waller is a dual-threat player, but he has the tools to also play in more of a pro-style offense. His best fit though is in a spread offense that utilizes his feet as well as his arm.

Potential

Waller is a forgotten recruit when compared with some other California quarterback prospects, but that is extremely unfair to him based on his potential. He’s not going to step onto a campus and play from day one, but I think he can be a starter for multiple years and be extremely productive with his arm and his feet.

How would you like Waller compared to the other elite California QB's TS? Really deep QB class out there this year with kids like Ricky Town, Josh Rosen, Blake Barnett, Brady White, Travis Waller, Jake Browning and Sheriron Jones.

I'd rank them Rosen, White, Town then Waller right now.

However, Waller has outperformed all 3 of them in a camp setting this Spring. He has only played QB for one and a half seasons.

He will get better.

Do we really have a shot with Waller?

I have been out of pocket so I missed the Gentry reaction, does this give us a better shot with Dormady?

I think Dormady has to come to camp and throw in front of Saban to show he is over the injury.

I guess this should at least put us in Waller's Top 3.

I like the idea of Dormady. Don't think we have a shot with Waller (but that's based on noting).

Either way, wasn't a big fan of Gentry and was glad (although surpized) to see him go to Texas since I think that was Dormady's dream school.

Better yet, you should google "sarcasm" and understand the definition.

What part of that was sarcasm? Please explain.

Probably a long shot considering he'll be salivating at playing for a school like Oregon.

Either way, if we don't get this kid it only help us next year with the 5* kids we've already shown interest in.

The mantra of qb recruiting for Bama this year seems to be "Honk if you've been offered a scholarship to be Bama's qb."

How many fricking offers are we going to put out there before ultimately having to settle for someone like Ely?

Yes, i'm mad.

what will help us with 5 * qbs is Coker coming in and being good, and lane getting it to cooper, white, jones, and howard on the regular.

Yeah, that would help us greatly. If Coker is that good, I don't see him staying for more than a year.

So we're looking at 2016 with Bateman?

Coker is already getting hype as a NFL prospect for next year's draft, I doubt a kid who has already graduated would stay another year if he blows up and has a huge year like some expect. I also have to remember though that he's a huge Bama fan so that could factor in no idea though

And for the record I'm not even sure if the hype is fair its just there
