Former Florida QB John Brantley is the last 5-star Pro-Style QB to come from the historical SEC states (Ryan Mallett is from Texas, but that was before A&M joined). You know what class he was in? 2007. Let that sink in.

There isn't a QB from the state of Alabama ranked in the Top 31 for in-state prospects. The Composite rankings stop at 31.

Another blurb on Dormady from the Texas 247 site (10 months ago pre-injury):
quote:
4. Quinten Dormady
The Boerne quarterback represents the first contrast in style on this list. While the three guys listed before him are all dual-threat guys, Dormady ran a pass-first spread attack for his father Mike's Greyhounds as a sophomore and ran it well.
Blessed with a strong arm and good pocket presence, Dormady is in the conversation as one of the top pocket passers to have emerged in the region to this point. A baseball player at Boerne, Dormady threw for over 3,000 yards and 27 touchdowns last season.
Boerne doesn't have spring football and the Greyhounds are still in the baseball playoffs, which could be why there hasn't been much buzz about him. He's a guy whose presence was wanted on campus when the staff held it's sophomore day in March.

11 months ago:
quote:
Quinten Dormady, 6-3. 180, Boerne
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Dormady came into the 2012 season as a complete unknown, but certainly didn't end his first season as a varsity starter in that manner. The strong-armed signal caller with excellent accuracy in the intermediate game and red zone completed 228 of 372 passes for 3,010 yards and 27 touchdowns in 11 games. The son of Boerne head coach Mike Dormady features good feet, a quick arm and the ability to spin the ball along with his excellent accuracy and plus arm strength. Texas, Baylor and Oklahoma are showing interest, among others.

I mean we are doing something right to have been in the Top 3/5 for
Gabbert
Miller
McCarron
Sims
Kessler
Kiel
Winston
Hackenburg
Morris
Harris
Bateman
Cornwell
Town
only to land 4 of them. It isn't about the star rating as much as it the guy identified as first on our board.
And almost all of them chose absolute shite show programs over in many cases the defending national champion.

On Brady White:
He's slight, but White has a cannon.
quote:
Brady White, Newhall (Calif.) Hart
The 6-foot-2, 183-pound White may have the strongest arm of all of the 2015 signal callers. He features a whippy motion with the ability to stretch the field vertically up the sidelines and seams. The ball is seemingly hot coming off hi hand with every throw, but he also shows the ability change ball speeds. He does a very good job of stepping up in the pocket with the eyes down the field, and never looks rushed or panicked. White completed 66.7 percent of his passes as a sophomore for 2,474 yards and 17 touchdowns against seven interceptions. All seven of White’s interceptions came in Newhall Hart losses, as the Indians finished 8-4 on the season.

Again, only two of those guys were from the Southeast and we got one of them.
We landed 3 others from Texas, Utah and Oklahoma.
The majority of the others stayed relatively close to home.

I thought they were going hard after Dillman?

I think White and Rosen are their top 2. Dillman and Sills after that.

Rosen is committing to UCLA next week so he's practically out.
Has White visited Michigan yet?

Dillman and Sills after that.
I'm interested to see what happens with Sills regardless. He will be the poster boy for kids who commit super early only to not develop as people thought. fricking Kiffin.

Brady White quote from yesterday:
He's ranked in the Top 50 and only has 10 offers. If he is willing to go to Penn State imagine what he would do with a Bama offer.
Offer this kid already Lane!!
McElwain obviously likes him.
quote:
"I have 10 offers right now. I have San Jose State, Colorado State, Indiana, Cal, Maryland, Penn State, Jacksonville State, Louisville, ASU and San Diego State," he said. "I've been hearing a lot from schools like Missouri, Texas A&M, Kentucky just popped up and has been talking to me a lot, same with a lot of Pac 12 schools.

From the L.A. Nike Football QB camp:
FWIW, Josh Rosen won MVP.
quote:
Brady White
Physically White doesn’t stand out the way some of the other elite quarterbacks do. He’s grown to 6-2 and he’s still filling out but the arm talent matches up with anybody. White looked cool and comfortable all day long on Sunday and has bouncy athleticism to his game that allows him to make throws in and outside of the pocket. He’s a gun-slinger and his offer list is finally starting to catch up to his talent.
quote:
Ricky Town
Once again, Town lived up to his billing as an elite talent at the quarterback position on Sunday. It’s the little things that separate town from the others. He has a quick release that allows him to throw a catchable ball that he gets rid of quickly on check-downs. He has really calm feet in the pocket and during footwork drills nobody looks more smooth and effortless. He’s also got a poised, cool demeanor that you like to see out of your quarterback. It’s those little things that help him really show up on tape.
quote:
Blake Barnett
Yet another major talent out West that didn’t disappoint, Barnett earned an invite to The Opening with his play on Sunday. He showcased a big arm, quick release and the ability to square his shoulders and make throws outside of the pocket. Listed as a pro-style quarterback, Barnett really looked the part as a mobile athlete as well and has multiple dimensions to his game. Recently bumped in the Top247, the Notre Dame commit looked worthy of his rise on Sunday.
FWIW, Josh Rosen won MVP.

Leo Lewis was offered by Missouri yesterday:
He says he doesn't care if he plays inside or outside (he was a DE his sophomore year) and that he wants to commit close to NSD. He also said leaving MS is not that big of a deal to him.
quote:
"I heard they were interested in me about a week or two ago, but I had never gotten to talk to them," explained the 6-foot-3, 225 pound prospect. "I'd been interested in Mizzou, just hadn't got the chance to talk to them. I finally got to talk with them and I let them know that I was interested [in Mizzou]. They offered me on the spot."
"We just talked a while and he said that I'm the best linebacker in the country. He said I could come in and learn the system and play inside or outside. However best I fit within the system," Lewis said.

quote:from a natural talent and physical ability standpoint, Cornwell is elite as they get. The guy still need his throwing motion refined but even with some inefficiencies can throw it on a rope 50yards while running. When he is coached up he will make crazy hard throws look effortless. He has more upside than any qb I can think of in recent memory. he was still one of the best qbs in the country desire only really having played 1 full season of varsity football. He held his own at the elite 11 against guys who have been playing qb since they were 3. And he is crazy mobile for a guy of his size. most guys with an arm like that are statues. Add to that the best attitude imaginable and natural leadership skills and he could be one for the ages in time. he would have ended the year a 5 star if he hadn't gotten injured, was tearing it up his senior year despite a weak supporting cast. He should have plenty of time to get polished before he has to play at bama. I would take his commitment again over any qb in the last several cycles, or this cycle (including town)
Why is QB the one position we can't seem to get our Tier 1 guy? (AJ and Sims in two fairly weak QB cycles being the exception now with 8 Saban cycles is belt). We just had the Heisman runner up at QB. And they have picked all kinds of second rate programs over us as well. It is basically the mirror of the situation we had landed Jimmy Clausen in Saban's 40 day long 2007 cycle.

TIFWIW:
@UofARecruitniks: From the looks of it Reuben will be #10, Sylve moves to #3, and Tony Brown gets #2 #Bama
@UofARecruitniks: and Hootie Jones #6 (HaHa's old #) #Bama
@UofARecruitniks: Shaun Dion Hamilton #11 (Tana Patricks old #)
TB, Hootie, and SDH are on the official roster with those numbers, but there's no change in Reuben or Sylvie's numbers from last season.
