Five-star defensive end Byron Cowart of Seffner (Fla.) Armwood is considered a heavy Florida lean and he visited Gainesville again last weekend. But he told Rivals.com afterward that three other schools are still standing out for him as well -- including Alabama.


"Bama is back in there because when you see that for yourself, then you have to have them on your radar," said Cowart (6-3, 248), who is rated as the No. 1 strong-side defensive end and the No. 3 overall prospect in the nation by Rivals.

Cowart said he spent time with the entire Alabama defensive line during a visit to Tuscaloosa earlier this month, and had a 15-minute talk with Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban that he called "the best part of the trip."

"I learned that you won't fully know about a college until you go there yourself," he told 247Sports after the visit. "People tell me that Alabama is too big and that I'll never play if I go there, but only you know what you are capable of based on what you see. You can't tell me I can't play at Alabama, because I know what I saw. They compete and they work hard. That's what Alabama is about and that's what I'm about."

Cowart, who had 72 tackles and 13 sacks in 2013, said Oregon and USC were still among his favorites as well and he plans to visit each sometime this spring. He was also impressed with a recent visit to Florida State and is planning a return trip to Gainesville, where he took in the Florida-Kentucky basketball with fellow five-star defensive end prospect CeCe Jefferson.

"They want me and CeCe bad," Cowart told Rivals of the Gators. "They didn't sign a Buck linebacker and an end last year so the opportunity for both of us is there. They want me at Buck and CeCe at defensive end."
