Any statement that uses the term “student-athlete” should be immediately disregarded and ridiculed. Sankey is a clown.

So glad we have the SEC HQ in our back pocket.

Wow. frick you Sankey. I haven’t heard him say word one about any other eligibility case.

Guess he feels emboldened since he’s got the Texas schools dicks in every orifice of his body.

I like Byrne. I think he’s mostly done a good job. But in no way should he allow the commissioner of the conference to openly petition against us and one of our players without response. He definitely needs to do something about this.

What would you suggest? Threaten to go independent? Would we make more money than we currently do (based on the recent disclosure of distributions) or would we lose money?

Well, the main thing I want him to do immediately is to put out a statement and demand a public apology. But…

I would take the Notre Dame deal in a heartbeat. I do think we’d make more money. Choose your own schedule and if you’re top 11 you’re guaranteed in. This will all be a mega conference eventually and Alabama has a seat at that table. Don’t absolutely need to ride out the last 8 years of the SEC.

Hell, even the ACC allows teams to keep all their earnings instead of keeping bottom feeding programs afloat. We’d be fine

There's a lot of irony in one of the chief architects of the current shitshow that is college athletics talking about integrity.

I don't think Bediako should be playing, but neither should the other professionals from the G League or overseas. It's asinine that they changed the rules to include those professionals for what used to be an amateur sport. The only difference with Bediako is that he played 2 years at Bama, he signed a 2 Way contract, and because it's Bama. The amount of harping that has been done about him and his stats in the G League is nauseating and yet you hear nothing about the other G League pros playing amateur sports.
IMO this is going to hurt Bama in the long run, and they aren't really a whole lot better with him.

I wonder if any networks would be legitimately interested in making an offer for us to go independent (especialy with the likely buyout).

My worst fear would be someone like Netflix winding up with our broadcast rights

Someone would definitely be interested. We are regularly in the highest watched games all season, and that’s including non conference games. We are the biggest viewer draw in college football.

I wouldn’t even mind something like Netflix. Couldn’t be worse than ESPN.

I had no idea until today that A&M's best player (Agee) is 25 years old and playing this season based on a TRO granted against the NCAA by a Texas court.

The NCAA's temporary fix for this will probably have to be something like:

ALL players who sign a professional contract after 18 years old are ineligible. Period.

I think that's why you see Sankey frame his argument is a way that's equally applicable to all the international players and focused on consistency.

It'll be temporary because without some sort of eventual collective bargaining agreement with a players association like in the "other" pro leagues most NCAA bylaws that limit access are not going to pass legal muster.

Byrne should immediately make a statement rebuking the SEC commissioner for commenting on an ongoing court case involving one of our student athletes. It is meaningless in terms of force but we need to signal distance between us and the SEC. Need to strike the fear of God that we may do something like save the ACC from death by joining it when the time is right.

Nick saban was the only reason folks gave Alabama respect. Byrne, or anyone else at ua, has not garnered the same regard.
I also firmly believe Nick gumps for us on his own accord, and is not being utilized as much as he would be happy to be.

We’ve continued to draw a massive amount of viewers, money, recruits, etc post Saban. We were a powerhouse before Saban and we will be again

We put southern football on the map. Sankey needs to be reminded of that. I’m absolutely sure the ACC would give us a Texas/Big 12 type deal if we wanted. The Big 10 would absolutely bring us in. We are one of the few schools who could thrive as an independent.

frick Sankey and if the SEC wants to stick by him then frick the SEC too

I can’t reiterate how this statement would not happen if it were Mississippi State or Texas A&M player at the center of the controversy. Sankey has way overcorrected to avoid appearances that only room temp IQ opponent fans and boosters think about SEC preference towards Alabama. In practice, there have been several occasions going back the 2016 transfer fiasco with Maurice Smith where he’s stuck his neck out there or gone against rules to hurt our interests.

I’m just here to point out if y’all get your way, Alabama isn’t going to be the running leader for professionals.

Ain’t nobody going to want to live in Tuscaloosa for a pro team compared to Atlanta or New York
