12 team playoff approved according to Pete Thamel.

Get ready for SEC teams to fill 25% of the field each year and watch the world continue to melt.

This is a terrible idea.

Agreed. 12 is simply too big.

I could have been on board with a 6 team (most ideal; top 2 get Byes) or 8 team tops (P5 Conf Champs plus 3 wildcards)

Simply too big with too much room for NC game impacting injuries in meaningless games more often than not.

Will be interesting to see what happens with 12 game regular season and CCGs.

This is a sample of what one of the proposals would look like. The only thing I like about it is the home game playoff model.

2011 - Alabama and LSU rematch?! This injustice cannot stand. We need more than just 2 teams playing for a title.

2014 - 4 team playoff introduced.

2017 - All SEC national championship game causes rumblings of needing an expanded playoff

2021 - A second SEC national championship (this time a rematch) and the cries for an expanded playoff reach a fever pitch.

2022 - Expanded playoff announced for 2026.

2027 - All SEC Football Final Four and the cries for an expanded playoff reach a fever pitch.

2028 - Expanded playoff (to 32 teams) announced for 2031.

Just go 10 game regular season for seeding and a 64 team playoff.

Champion plays 16 games.

Done.

Agreed in part, but what happens to the other bowls now? We're already at a point where #5 vs #8 Sugar Bowl isn't good enough.... I can't imagine this gets any better when the Sugar Bowl is #15 vs. #19

Based on the graphic, Sugar Bowl is presumed to be # 22 Kentucky vs #16 Oklahoma. No one wants to see that

Might as well call it the Alabama invitational, orc the SEC invitational.

I agree. Just have a tie breaker system.

For the top P5 conferences with 2-3 teams in the mix, the extra CCG only hurts your odds of a NC with your best two beating each other up for another game.

Lesser conferences will likely see value in keeping them for the bump up in rankings of highest seeded conf champ.

Right now there are nearly 130 FBS teams. Having a four team playoff is a bit of a sham. I think it will make the playoff as a whole more interesting.

I think the early games vs the top 4 will 90+% of the time have a predetermined outcome. I think the needless injuries in those games will have NCG altering effects.

Shorten the regular season if you want to expand the playoffs.

These guys just don't know it just means Bama is gonna be in literally every year now, no matter who we lose to.

So how is that different than last year's semifinals?

There's always going to be a couple or three dominant teams that are likely to steamroll into the final, but at least now it's being opened up to a few more teams. I'd have preferred 8 but to me this is better than the current system.

College football was already bleeding out.
NIL and Portal were fatal gut shots.

This piece of shite playoff change is a useless bandaid.

It's another round of games that will have the same outcome 90+% of the time, but open the door for key injuries that will effect the more competitive games
