Also, do we have screen plays? Do those exist in our arsenal? I know we have SWING plays, but do we have SCREENS?
I don't even think we threw a slant.

We threw a WR screen on third down that resulted in nothing meaningful.
I don’t get why BoB keeps calling those screens to Metchie. Screens to the outside receiver tend to be the least effective type of screens. Bama has had success with them in the past but that was with great blocking WRs and a really speedy WR as the target. Metchie is best blocker by far and while good in yac he’s not the fastest. So no wonder they haven’t worked too well.

We had 1 right? 23 snuck out of the backfield and went for 30 or 40? Basically tripped over himself.

Ya'll remember how many WR/Tunnel Screens that Lane Kiffin would utilize while at USC/Bama.
It worked but I didn't like that style of playcalling at all (I'm in the minority here).

The first one I saw clearly - the other thing is that if he hits on a few of those, it will ease up the pressure.
That said, offensive line was still terrible. Bryce is a really good player but definitely has some room to improve on deep ball and in blitz recognition to throw into the vacated gap quickly.
One other thing is that he doesn't' have great deep ball accuracy - in some cases he sees and makes the right read / throw but just hasn't been really sharp on the deep ball.

I think BY gets locked into a read early, it could be a BoB thing or could be a timing thing since the OL isn't great and he's wanting to get rid of the ball quick. We don't seem to throw the middle much, the 4-6 yards for our WRs to then run. Could be there are routes there but BY does not throw them or he does not see them. I'd also like to see him roll out more. He's good on the run and it may help buy time. I agree that he missed a lot of opportunities..he seems to be reluctant to take a chance..great for low INT's not so much for getting sacked or 3 and outs.

I'm with you. I hated it.

I'm being totally serious when I say this...on some of those reads and in particular when the receivers come open over the middle 15 yards downfield....BY isn't seeing some of these because of his height. It is what it is, but I'd rather have him back there over anyone else we have ay qb.

Ok but how did Brees do it at a high level in the NFL so many years? He’s about the same height as Bryce. And he was asked to make every throw possible and he usually did.
You also have Kyler Murray now who is having a pretty good season.

Bryce missed some opportunities and could have played better. That is always true.
With that said the problem areas on offense would look like this :
Offensive Line
Tight Ends
WRs
Running back
QB

Perhaps BY isn't playing as well as we're all giving him credit for.
Or, worse, all of the pressure he has faced and hits taken have had a cumulative effect, and he isn't seeing the field as well because his vision isn't fully downfield for subconscious self-preservation reasons.

While that is true that Bryce Young is far down the list of problems with the offense, I also think that it is true that eliminating the missed opportunities in the passing game (like those highlighted in the OP) are likely the only chance Alabama has to put up enough points against Georgia (if they play).
Georgia's front seven will be better than Alabama's Oline and Bama's running game by a fair margin and I don't know that much will change between now and then.
Bryce Young and the WRs will absolutely have to capitalize on just about every semi-open opportunity that presents itself against Georgia (again assuming Bama gets to play them).

100% agree
Our path to victory there (and with more wiggle room but similarly against Auburn) is stretching the field on offense and continuing to stuff the opponent run game.
If we can't take advantage down the field then we don't have a shot in a possible UGA game and will have issues at Auburn too.

I think this has more to do with the missed reads than anything else. He was rattled and didn't trust his protections. You really can't blame him but there was a few times, even when LSU only rushed 4 people, he was still playing like he was running for his life with minimal pressure

Should have clarified - classic screen plays. To backs, or even tight ends or WRs across the middle. Not quick throws wide. The ones that take advantage of an overaggressive front 7.
I too wonder where those went. Seems like those could be a way to really utilize Roydell and Sanders, but I guess we aren't trying that.

They recognize coverage and move in the pocket so that they can see their anticipated throwing lane based pre / post snap reads of coverage and where their receivers will be working.
Its really just Bryce taking his game to the next level in the December break and in the off-season.
