The barns so called OC, Kenny Dillingham, is gone to FSU. They are saying on wjox that half the schools in the SEC are after Bo Davis. Hope Saban can get him.

That guy really liked Malzahn evidently. These coaches are such vagabonds.

If and when it happens it will be after early signing period.. like I have said many times. Saban actually wants him to stay.. there is just other outside things that might keep Golding from putting in the time needed. I haven’t heard if he has worked it out or not yet.. but Saban loves the guy.

I’m sure in Saban’s eyes.. he is loyal, follows orders, recruits hard (effort wise) and understands the game on paper.

To me.. he can’t adjust in game and has a hard time relating assignments to players. He out smarts himself on easy calls. Such as safety delay blitz on 3rd and 15. But I am not the HC and Saban must see something

UTSA is hiring Jeff Traylor as their HC, so I guess Golding won’t be leaving Bama for that job.

Demote Golding so he can learn more of the defense.

I would have made Charles Kelly the DC this year

From reading the Georgia board, a lot of rumors their DC Lanning, may be heading to FSU. We better speed things up If Saban wants Schumann.

Saban loved Tosh too (as a recruiter), but he had to go. IMO hiring Golding was a good move if (a) he had been assigned to a position group he can actually coach (i.e. not ILBs) and (b) he would have had a few years to get used to what Saban wants out of his defense and teach and coach it. Then, after some years, he could have been promoted from within to DC. Unfortunately that didn't happen.

There's another thread about Saban slipping, but a defense taught and coached by Jeremy Pruitt probably wouldn't have lost those LSU and Auburn games. Win those games and Bama is a lock for the playoff and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Saban's mistake is messing up 2 DC hires. Of course our recruiting is going to suffer without Tosh and Pruitt. And of course it's difficult to replace Pruitt as a coach and teacher (and someone who knows Alabama AND Nick Saban).

I'm a thousand miles removed from the action, but I know one thing: there just isn't more time to see if Golding has it in him as DC. It is time for Saban to look for the best possible coach, teacher and recruiter he can get (preferably one with DC experience at the highest level). The Alabama DC position is one of the top (if not the no. 1) positions in the country. It isn't an easy job, but take it and in no time you are up for HC at a top destination.

The question then is: who's the best guy that unites these three qualities in college football?
Glenn Schumann seems to tick a lot of boxes.
Should it be Charlie Strong? Then go get him and pay him. I don't care if it is only for 1 or 2 years.
Or is there a defensive version of Lane Kiffin somewhere out there? If so, great: let's get him for 3 years.

Glenn Schumann's knowledge of Saban's defense and approach to teaching and coaching ILBs and coordinating the defense are as close as you can get to Jeremy Pruitt's. He's a Bama alum who grew up on Saban's staff in player personnel and as a defensive analyst, before going with Kirby to coach ILBs. An almost ideal fit, imo. He's Co-DC/ILB Coach at UGA now. It'd be his 1st DC job, but iirc, Pruitt did well right away when he got his 1st job as DC at Bama.

I got a good feeling about it too. A Bama guy, who can fit right in.
