I agree with the majority of the points you made.

Missing J Hill, Zulu and T Green had a MAJOR impact in this game.

If you compare what CKW has done defensively to any team in the SEC (including Georgia), it’s less points and less yards and more turnovers going into his 3rd season than any other team except OU.

I don’t know why he has given #5 such a long leash and it has cost them dearly in every game (muffed punt vs UK).

As far as limiting opponents to 14-24 each week and forcing multiple (often game-changing) turnovers, you just aren’t going to get a better DC when your HC is an Offensive guy.

Whose defense would you rather have in the SEC besides Bama?

The only 2 to consider is Georgia and OU and both of them have Defensive HC’s.

For a team that’s supposed to get the headlines for elite offense and points, CKW does as good of a job as you can realistically ask for.

Bama is 23-1 when scoring 21+ on offense under CKD.

I just don’t see the losses that is the fault of the defense.

When have they ever lost a shootout type game?

Last year the defense drug the rest of the team kicking and screaming all the way to Atlanta and the Playoffs, scraping by 24-20 every week.

If ANYONE had told you before the game that Georgia would score 20 points, who would’ve possibly picked against Bama to win the game?

Last year in Athens the offense got shutout in the 2nd half and the defense held on and won 24-20.

I think it’s GREAT that the expectations are as high as they are defensively, and they should be.

I see a defense that needs someone besides #0 and #1 who can get to the QB and (imo) those 2 guys are both injured currently.

Put #5 on the bench and Georgia’s 3rd and 17 and 3rd and 22 most likely do not happen, which would be negated all 10 points they surrendered in the 2nd half.

Regardless, anytime you hold a top5 opponent in the country to 20 points or less, then you HAVE to find a way offensively to win that game.

Every week you see “dominant” defenses getting 35-40 points dropped on them in losses, yet Bama loses 20-17 and the village idiots are out.

Trust me, it could be SO much worse defensively.

The fact that so many people here are blaming a 20-17 loss on the defense should tell you all what the expectation is for that side of the ball.

LSU can’t hold UK under 550 yards and 36 points and Saban with Golding at the helm for 5 seasons was getting 40 points dropped on them frequently.

Georgia will score 35+ in every game they play this season.

Alabama's defense is ranked #54 nationally, 103rd in passing yards allowed. I enjoy all the x's & o's insight you provided but you're gonna have to spin those 2 facts to me.

The fact that you are blaming the defense for a 20-17 loss, should tell you what the expectation is on that side of the ball.

They were #3 in Passing D and #2 in Passing Efficiency last year. They aren’t doing anything differently. At some point guys have to make plays (or see the bench). I don’t see Z Brown, McDonald, Red Morgan, Sabb or Dre Jr giving anything up.

Go find a defense that can force 3 fumbles and 2 picks and hold Georgia to under 17 and cheer for them.

Read my most previous post. Not typing all that again

I think 1 and especially 0 are dinged up as well. Could have swore I even saw Pierre hobbled a time or two. Really need to get Uzu and Hill back.
I like that we’ve played a large number of players this year especially on defense. Now some have got to step up until these other guys get healthy.

I don’t think the defense would’ve dominated UK the way they did if Hill and Zulu would’ve been out from start to finish.

#0 and #1 are having to play EVERY snap of the game.

The 1st half they held up, then losing T Green (4th best against the run per PFF this season) and #1 and #0 getting worn out, then when a sub comes in for ONE play is when Georgia breaks off a 38yd run and they have to go right back in.

They did enough to win if the QB Reese INT isn’t overturned, or if #5 was replaced. Or if the offense could muster 21 points.

No bearing whatsoever to what the stats say now. Your perfect defensive coordinator for an offensive minded coach like KDB gave him 3 opportunities in the 2nd half last night. I don't like to argue with folks on this board so I'll bow out. Hopefully I'm forced to eat major crow about the defense from Tennessee on. Thanks again for your contributions & insight.

I brought up last year to point out that they aren’t doing anything differently this year and it’s not like 4-5 different guys are struggling.

That’s too level-headed of a perspective.

#0 and #1 should be able to play every snap of the game wide open. Depth is for losers….

I hear you. I acknowledge in my post that holding uga to 20 was more than good enough to win the game. My only issue is not getting off the field on 3rd downs. They were able to heavily dictate the tempo of the game, and keep our offense on the bench and limit our possessions.

I wouldn’t trade our defense for many others, but I do want OUR defense to improve on 3rd/4th down defense and getting off the field. And yes I acknowledge Lee is a massive part of this issue here. We turned UGA over but did not cause consistent havoc behind the LOS, which is what the great defenses do. All damn game.

When there's no pass rush, the secondary is on thin ice. Pass ruch was non-existent last night for Bama but Keelon was under relentless pressure for the majority of his snaps.

Juat curious-

If BAMA had been awarded the DPI and been able to run the majority of the clock out, and scored a TD, and won that game, would you people be crying all over this board about the defense?

You've talked shite about the defense all season. If holding Uga to 20 points doesn't make you "eat major crow" nothing BAMA does to tenner on defense should.

Sure have, and the statistics coupled with last night's inability to get off the field back that up. It's ok to be critical of a certain unit on this team.

Dear God, don’t remind me of that STUPID 3 man rush. There’s no way we’re getting any pressure on Stockton that way. And if by some miracle we do, he’s just going to tuck it and run. He could have written a novel with the time he had in the pocket. And Womack kept going back to it even though we paid dearly for it every time he did.

It certainly is. There is also a gulf between realistic expectations and stupidity.

So I ask again. If BAMA had gotten the DPI, run out the clock, scored a TD and won, would you still be this critical of the defense??

I honestly don’t even think this is complicated:

1. Bench #5

2. Spray Uza and Hill with a gratuitous amount of deer antler until they can play. We need our maximum outside rush back.

3. Goes with #1, who can replace Lee and actually be effective?

4. Hubbard should be more situational than anything. He struggles more than anything with coverage . He had a great interception not taking that away but by and large he gets burned a lot.

However all of this doesn’t matter if the offense can’t perform. I knew after the first two series of this game it would be very limited possessions.

i disagree. #5 was not a starter last year. every oc and qb we've played has picked on him for a reason. he's easy to get either a completion or penalty on.

covert, i get exactly what you're saying. i think the major issue for fans is we can;t reconcile what we expected for pass d against what we actually have. we also are still neck deep in a saban/smart/pruett d that thrived on 3 n outs and can't reconcile, lol i used it twice, those d's against limiting points rather than yards. does that compute?

Buddy, If you can't see that the defense had ample opportunities to get off the field in critical situations in the second half of the game then I don't know what else there is to say. And you've already answered your own hypothetical that you want to dunk on me so bad with. Obviously we don't agree so I'm moving on from the subject.

Why do you keep ignoring the amount of points the defense allowed?

Georgia was 7/13 on 3rd down and scored 10 in the 1st/10 in the 2nd.

On what planet are you not taking that performance?

Don’t inexplicably reverse Reese’s INT and idk how you’re arguing the defense wasn’t good.

The defense was objectively good. Need to sure up some things like any team.
