I had a GT buddy tell me this was going to happen about a week ago. Pretty sure Key is an alum, so it's not too surprising.

Not surprising. I wish him the best. We will get someone better.

I hope his head is in this game. Clemson's DL is no joke.

He's a position coach. What are you talking about?

I mean that our OL needs to be coached and ready to go. Therefore, I hope our OL coach is completely focused on the task at hand and preparing these guys. How is that complicated?

He has nothing else to be doing. Dead period in recruiting and GT doesn't have a game until the fall.

24/7 had him listed as the second best recruiter in the country, behind Tosh.

Let’s get Pittman from UGA. Raid Bowl Cut’s staff of a good recruiter and a good position coach all at one time.

Lance Thompson was the best when Saban had his back.

JMO but if Key leaves The King for a gig at GT then Saban has NO PROBLEM with him leaving.

Just read that Key is denying contact with GT.

quote:

“That’s obviously where I went to college and where I played ball but, man, I don’t know where those came from -- where the rumors came from but I’m here at Alabama,” Key said Saturday morning in San Jose as part of Alabama’s media day for the CFP championship. “I have not accepted the job at Georgia Tech. It’s all about these guys and what we’re doing right now.”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday reported Key was expected to take an assistant coaching job with the Yellow Jackets.

Key also denied interviewing with Georgia Tech and new head coach Geoff Collins.

“Nope,” he said. “I don’t know where it came from.”

Key expressed surprise when he heard the reports linking to his alma mater.

“Yeah,” he said. “Nobody has called me.”

Haven't liked seeing the light burying of Key since this report surface, as both a coach and recruiter.

If you really look at it, Brent Key is the most complete OL Coach Bama has had under Saban.

Steve Marshall: Never coached a game
Joe Pendry: Really good coach, limited recruiter
Jeff Stoutland: Great coach, below average recruiter
Mario Cristobal: Great recruiter, average/good coach(OL regressed and he got demoted)

Seems off to take a lateral job, unless maybe he gets like "Run Game Coordinator/Associate HC" title.

Perfect world, he was suppose to be UCF's HC, but he went down with the ship with O'Leary. Weren't HCIW tags such a novel idea?

Don't see him getting closer to being a HC by just taking another OL job...
