Bullcrap. We had QB competitions that spilled into the season in 2011, 2014, 2015,and 2016. Every time Saban said the guy that wins the team will get the job. He's saying the same thing now.
Get outta here with that rewriting history nonsens
Just like you to totally ignore the context
Not even when McCarron and Sims were battling, or Blake Sims and Coker, and not when Barnett/Bateman/Hurts were all vying for the starting spot was it this clear cut to so many outside the program who was the better qb, and Saban making sure it's known far and wide that there is this supposed competition.

If it is Hurts so be it, Nothing to get upset about
Actually, I think it's more than enough for an Alabama fan to get upset about because Jalen Hurts has failed twice already in national title games, and if Saban for whatever unGodly reason were to choose him over #13, he'll fail again, and Tua will be somewhere else.
That's reason enough imo.

Hurts didn't throw a pick, much less a pick 6. Braxton Barker and our 7th or 8th RB mishandled an exchange and Jobe scooped it up for a possible score, but Barker recovered to bump him out inside the 5.
Hurts had more downfield shots and made them count, while Tua threaded the needle on some throws that Jalen wouldn't dare even attempt.
In the end, I believe Tua gives the offense a better shot because he can read coverages, spread the field, throw the deep ball consistently. This makes a defense respect our pass and thus loosen up for our run game. Jalen still has the tendency to look to his first read then tuck and run. More teams like LSU, Clemson, the Barn, and Washington will stack the box against Jalen and force us to beat them with his arm.

Tua got to win the team though

I know what you meant, but I didn't feel like rewriting my post. The simple fact is that you don't want to see Jalen trot out there vs Louisville, and you want Saban to make you feel better by naming Tua the starter. But you feeling better doesn't mean dick regarding Saban getting the most out of this team.

Actually, I think this supposed "competition" is more about Louisville having to prepare for both than about "getting the most out of his team".
I am sure, though, you have it all figured out, same as you did before when you said that Hurts can do anything Tua can do and there is nothing that Tua can do that Hurts cannot. Hurts can read the defense and make all the throws.
I am sure.

He did that when he was toting that trophy during the celebration. Jalen nowhere in sight.

Not according to some in here and I guess the coaches too.

Question for someone that saw the scrimmage: just reading between the lines a little but from the sound of it, Waddle has replaced Ridley as Jalen's primary receiving target. Is that the case? If Waddle is covered, time to tuck and run?

A couple of accounts I saw posted on BOL by guys who saw the scrimmage said Jalen connected on some nice throws when the primary target was open, but otherwise would bail out of the pocket and run if he had an opening or else throw it out of bounds. In other words his passing was improved moreso than his ability to quickly and effectively work through progressions when the fur is flying.

And that is his biggest problem, especially against top defenses. I’m glad he can throw it to open guys, but our offense can’t put up big time points consistently against top teams when the Quarterback’s second option most of the time is to run.
I hate to see Jalen be supplanted as the starter, and I’d hate even more to see him in another uniform, but it feels like we’d be needlessly handicapping our offense to play him over Tua.
That is not a knock against Jalen as a person. But Jalen as a distributor of the football. I just feel like there’s no reason for him to take first team snaps away from Tua against Louisville OR Arkansas State... we know what each guy is as a Quarterback and while Jalen will always have a special place in our football hearts we’re making ourselves worse (not because #2 is bad, just because #13 is so good) by not having Tua on the field.

Couldn’t have been said any better . Love Jalen as a person and appreciate everything he has done for Bama

Has Saban ever publicly declared a starter when there has been a competition? Usually the thing is just settled by who plays the most in the first couple games.

Not sure . Memory not what it used to be. Like most on here I am not at practices and scrimmages but if everything they say is true, it has to be frustrating for Tua. Same with Jalen 2 years ago

Unless I'm mistaken, no, he has not. They all went into the season. Kinda tired of it myself. Not the winning or Saban, but the QB battles being dragged into the season. Not saying that's on Saban, sometimes it just wasn't clear. This one seems rather clear though.

A BOL "insider" (connections) -- "Tua is qb1 and there legit is no debate. I’ve talked with several ppl and idc what any rec member is saying. The staff and players have long known Tua is qb1, and they’re only trying to find a role or how big of a role Jalen will have."

I know he's played QB his whole life, but he'll never be a QB in the league.
He is such a superior athlete, I know there has to be a position he can land where he can make an impact.
