If true, it would be nice to see Dabo have to beat one decent ACC team before advancing to the playoffs.

That home and home Bama just signed with them would get interesting.

It's interesting and thank you for posting, but that headline is specious at best given the info contained within the article. Stoops was supposedly spotted on campus, and an "anonymous source" claims a deal is in the works.

Now it's getting interesting. I'm suspicious that talks were had with Stoops before Willie was let go.

Coming out of retirement for THAT shitfest? Being dead set on retaining Kendal Briles? This is all around weird.

I read that FSU had engaged services of a search firm. Perhaps the firm did the initial talking with Stoops' agent to get enough of a comfort level that FSU and Stoops could come to terms, and then FSU terminated Taggert's contract to clear the way for Stoops being on campus today to seal the deal.

Either way, great hire for them if it goes through.

The way this has gone down, it sure seems like they had the main parts of the contract worked out before they fired Willie. The boosters came up with the buyout pretty quick

I agree, especially with keeping the OC (air raid, like OU runs) and DC (who's worked for Stoops before) -- less turmoil and should help them keep their recruiting class intact and finish it well. Imo, Stoops seems like a good fit at FSU. He was DC at UF before OU HC.

Btw: Welcome back.

Yep. Best way to do a coaching change if you can. Set it all up behind the scenes and then execute it quickly. Easier to do if the new hire isn't currently coaching in-season. Like Bama handled bringing in Byrne as AD. At the opposite (shiteshow) end of the spectrum is 10RC.

so he comes out of retirement to take a crappy job when others are opening up. I don't see it at all.

It's not a great job but what better jobs are we certain are opening up?

USC seems like a real possibility but their admin is flaky and three wins down the stretch here could sway them back towards retaining Helton. I doubt it happens, but it's not out of the realm.

FSU did the smart thing and made themselves first available. And to be honest based on conference and recruiting it's still a pretty dang good job. It's not elite, of course.

there have been plenty of decent jobs open up while Stoops was in "retirement". He probably had many suitors. But this one is his final job he takes. My guess is he is on campus to consult.

I’m not believing the rumor yet but my guess is that you’ll start to see more mid-season firings and hirings due to Early Signing Day. Taggert basically had no time to get his first class together. It’s unfair for coz he’s when they lose a class right out of the gate. At least with February, you have some time....
