The apathy was among the general body of fans then and not so much among the students. I thought we were very gung ho. Maybe mistaken.
I never missed a game didn't matter who we were playing. After all it was the Coach Bryant era.. Went to most basketball games too; the midweek ones were hard because of school.

The atmosphere always sucks. It's pathetic how quiet BDS is when you consider that it hosts the biggest brand in college football. Really frustrating to compare BDS with other SEC venues. Ironically, games were louder back in the Shula era. The Florida game in 2005 (when I was 11 years old) was louder than anything I've heard in the Saban era, and that was 10,000 fewer seats.

I was yelling at other students who left early - the big clear out in my opinion was after Dixieland Delight because all the thots were content that they had enough material for social media and the northern transplants/bandwagoners couldn't give a shite. Lots of these fools think that stupid chant is the most important Bama tradition, even though it doesn't date back 15 years. These kids will forget all about Bama the minute Saban retires.

I agree that it's time to reduce the student ticket allotment, but the Boomer parts of the stadium are deathly quiet even when full. I don't think there's any fixing the situation honestly. Especially not as long as the university values out of state students over in state.

It's just never been a loud crowd. BDS being loud for big games is even relatively recent. I was a student for Florida in 2005 and that was the loudest I'd ever heard an Alabama football game, and I'd been consistently going to games with my parents since the early 1990s.

There were pockets of time when we first got really good or thought we were getting really good (2005 Florida, 2005 Tennessee, 2005 LSU and 2008) where it was really electric, but for the most part Alabama folks go to Alabama games and watch and are nervous about bad things that might happen OR just happy watching the game. And a lot of those folks are older.

It just kind of is what it is.

I agree. I didn't get to go to the 2005 Florida game, but I could just tell on TV. I was at the 2005 LSU game, and that was probably the most electric BDS atmosphere I've experienced in person. A lot of that had to do with the lowest flyover in sports history right before kickoff. That plane must have skimmed the lights on the upper deck

On the flip side, I remember an old timer yelling at me and my dad for standing during the 2004 Western Carolina game (where Croyle tore his ACL). "If some of you in the front would siddown, some of us in the back could see!" So yeah, I agree that it's just the established culture here sadly.

Yep - 2005 LSU was when the plane almost hit the scaffolding

I don't feel like it's as bad as it was with people yelling to sit down and such (but maybe that's just my section), but quite frankly when you are up 21-3 after 1 qtr it's tough to maintain that level of riled up emotion unless you just hate the team across the way.

Rocky Block was the loudest moment I've ever heard in BDS, and that was during Saban era.

But, point taken... it's not explainable why the crowd at BDS ranks in the bottom of fanbases around the league when they by far have the most to be happy about.

How do Auburn fans get fired up for that shite show ?

CNS recommended first come first serve for tickets, with the idea that fans that work a little harder for tickets will be more likely to support and stay.

Edit* Can't believe in the midst of a dynasty we are even having this discussion. Its fricken embarrassing.

05 Florida and when Arenas took the kick back vs. LSU in 07 were the loudest to me. I've been going to games since the early 90s and it's louder now than then. I think it's the mindset of knowing you're going to win every game so why do I need to scream myself sore.

Something has changed in the last few years. I was a student in 2014 when we were well into the dynasty and the crowds were fantastic that year. The Florida, Mississippi State, Auburn, and even the A&M blowout were good atmospheres. At that time we had the high out of state enrollment and fan complacency was probably there

Because most noise from the upper decks never make it to field level.

The State and Auburn games in 2014 were awesome. That was when C Murder started and there was something about that team. Lots had to do with Blake, but the idea that they were scrappy underdogs punching above their weight had something to do with it.

That's because they suddenly shifted the in-game entertainment starting with the MSU game that year. Started going with C-Murder, etc. between plays really energized the players, students, and crowd. That lasted for 3ish years, and they've started going back to the same old pre-2014 shite. More country, more vanilla classic rock, etc.

TBQH the loudest crowds I've ever been to in the past decade, the home team lost.

1) Alabama at LSU, 2012
2) Auburn at Alabama, 2010
3) Alabama at LSU, 2014

The 2010 Iron Bowl was so loud in the first half, I thought when Marcel Dareus single handledly threw Cam to the ground the upper decks were going to collapse inward.

Yeah....I don't want to hear that shite. I know you're joking but I remember the Mississippi State game from 10 years ago. It was an ESPN prime time game in Bryant-Denny. Cold as shite. So cold, in fact, it started sleeting in the fourth quarter. Nobody left!

The problem is two fold: apathy and student population. I feel like the latter is actually more a problem with the former though. The vast majority of students who are attending Alabama in 2018 are from out of state. Out of state students just aren't nearly as passionate as those who are from the state of Alabama.

I was a student there from 2008-12. There was never a problem with filling the seats in those days. Yeah, some students would leave early, but they'd at least show up. That's more than can be said for this generation.

Completely disagree. Look at some of my highlight videos, especially the 1990 and 1994 Georgia games. Bryant-Denny Stadium was rocking on both occasions. BDS is a fairly mellow place for football games. But when it's loud, it's LOUD.

I think you may mean the '91 and '94 Georgia games. The '91 Georgia game was my first Bama game. Both games were tremendous atmospheres!

I was at this game... oh man what an environment that first half.

One game that really stands out to me was 2007 vs Arkansas in OT. Honestly it was louder at that moment we scored then at any point during the 2011 LSU game

That was the game post LSU and before the streak busting Auburn game. Saban went nuts on Thursday night and the place was rocking. It was cold as shite too.

There's nothing worst than people on a forum who bitch about the people who actually went to the game.

Not you.. referencing the op who I doubt even visited Tuscaloosa
