Alabama Men’s Tennis Standout Edson Ortiz Named First Team All-SEC

Alabama men's tennis graduate student Edson Ortiz has been named to the 2021 All-SEC First Team the Southeastern Conference announced Friday.

Ortiz, who has played at the top of the Crimson Tide's roster this season, is now a three-year All-SEC honoree, earning first-team accolades in 2019 and 2021 and second team in 2018. There were no All-SEC honors in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently ranked 45th in the nation in singles, Ortiz has twice been named the SEC Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year and has also been named to the SEC Men's Tennis Community Service team.

With this year's honor, Alabama has now tallied 51 First Team All-SEC certificates and a combined 76 first- and second-team accolades.
