Not Bama - but a SEC first worth noting:
Kentucky grabs first national title in volleyball
Kentucky won the NCAA women's volleyball national championship Saturday night, defeating Texas three sets to one in a thrilling title match.
It is the first national championship in the Kentucky volleyball program's history, and the Wildcats had to come from behind against the Longhorns to claim it. Kentucky also became the first SEC school in history to capture the NCAA women's volleyball championship.
Texas, a No. 4 seed in the tournament, won the opening set, 25-20, before 2-seed Kentucky came roaring back to win the next two sets by the scores of 25-18 and 25-23.
The fourth set was tight throughout, with Texas taking the early lead before Kentucky came back to take a 14-13 lead. From there, the Wildcats clawed their way to a victory in the set and the match, although they never led by more than two points the rest of the way and Texas was able to tie the score three more times, the last coming at 21-21, before UK finally was able to inch away, winning the fourth and final set 25-22.
Junior outside hitter Alli Stumler registered a season-high 26 kills for the Wildcats, who also received strong performances from the likes of senior setter Madison Lilley and freshman outside hitter Madi Stumler.
Kentucky, which earlier captured its fourth SEC championship in a row, finishes the season with an overall record of 24-1. Texas finishes at 27-2.
