we have around 15 OL on Scholarship and we cant find 5 who can play down and dirty and move people around to get 4th and inches. Hasnt this been a concern now 2 years in a row and NS replaced the OL coach. We went virtually 30 min of football vs UT without a first down. I am not in panic mode yet but the tea leaves are not looking good.
Wasnt the AU game last year like this too?

These next two weeks games give Bama time to settle on the best 50-55 players and get them ready to start the 2nd season after Vandy.
Oh, and stop trying to return kickoffs. Just allow the ball into the endzone and start at the 25. Avoid being stopped at the 16-18 yardline as well as the penalty for block in the back.

Just let the backups start this week and see if it was personal or staff causing the issues.

there are players that show out in games but are lousy practice players.
Could it be that BOB is a great offensive mind but does not do well when the game starts.
Also whoever is coaching our DB's (NS?) has them doing the same thing year in and year out. A lot of holding when the WR makes his break and does not do a good job turning to face the ball when it is in the air. This has been going on for years and KoolAid got caught last game and could have been flagged for more. Can anyone comment on what is going on here.

Saban is definitely involved in coaching the corner backs.
To me the refs missed a couple of obvious holds by our corners, but then called a couple on us that were questionable. I though the penalty call when their QB got hurt was bogus. One of the TV guys finally said he didnt agree with the call.
I just think Saban wanted this to be a more physical running
team, and it didnt work. At the end, and Saban even said it, "we spread things out", and then BY did his thing. I think some of the game planning is on Saban. The coaches were trying to run the ball more in a tighter formation.

Saban teaches a twin technique. In a nutshell, if you are “in phase” you turn around and play the ball. If you are “out of phase” you play the man and attempt the breakup at the catch point. We’ve broken up a lot of passes over the years by ripping or chopping at the receivers hands/arms as the ball arrives. It’s hard to hang onto a football when someone immediately clobbers your arms. The thought process is you aren’t going to get burned for a bunch of YAC if you don’t turn around never find the ball.
The problem is this is a new technique for most entering the program. There can be a gray area in the players head on if he’s in phase or out of phase. It gets drilled into them, so when in doubt they usually just play the man and try to break it up. What often happens instead, especially down the field, is a moment of panic and the contact comes early.
They end up in a position to have to make that decision by getting beat over the top though. If they’re stride for stride, it’s human nature to just turn around and play the ball because they aren’t worried about getting beat. This comes down to technique and positioning. If they get a guy on their outside hip near the sideline, it’s just natural to turn your head up and try to make a play on the ball looking back inside.
Sometimes we have great coverage and guys just make an incredible play. That long touchdown against Georgia in the natty last year is a good example. Even the first long one to worthy wasn’t terrible coverage. Guy just made a really good catch on a low percentage ball. I’m in the camp that would like to see how Arnold and Ricks look as a pair. Arnold seems to be the most fluid of the bunch and ricks seems to be the most comfortable with the ball in the air. Khyree is a dude, but he’s not built to play man against these slippery speed guys.

I agree - and Ricks length is something that you just can't teach and is so beneficial in those sorts of jump ball/contested catch situations. The ability to play off a guy with your body and still effect his catch with long arms is a massive plus for a CB.

Check this video of Bryce to Gibbs TD. What a lightning move Gibbs put on the DB to get open. Bryce was brilliant too. Liked Burton’s spin move but the DB was up to the task.

Paralyzed Bloomington football player's first words off ventilator: 'Roll tide'
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (FOX 9) - The family of Ethan Glynn says the young high school football player, who was paralyzed during a game nearly two weeks ago, reached a major milestone as he marches towards recovery.
In an update on CaringBridge, Ethan Glynn's family wrote Monday that he "continues to amaze everyone with his grit and determination." The family says Ethan is now off his ventilator, adding that the first words out of his mouth were "roll tide" – the rallying cry for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Over the weekend, the family says Ethan was also able to watch the Alabama football game with his family from his hospital bed.
Glynn was left paralyzed from the shoulders down after a tackle on September 2 during the season opener for the Jefferson Jaguars football team. After the game, the Glynn family said Ethan had suffered severe injuries to his neck and spinal cord.
We're told Glynn is a standoff athlete and, aside from football, is also active in hockey and baseball.
An online fundraiser to support the Glynn family has raised nearly $150,000 as of Tuesday.

The Rantards are convinced Ricks is about to transfer because he's been benched for loafing.
