I would operate under the assumption that he won't play this year and just be pleasantly surprised if he gets on the field.

Labryan Ray was game time decision last week. They probably held him out because of Mercer. I expect him to be on the field this weekend against Florida.

Rewatched our 1st half offense to focus on the line. I'm not an expert but I have watched closely for a long time and played the position myself. It's often so easy to watch Bryce and skill guys in game, but you really have to slow it down to evaluate the line...
Owens is a big time liability out there. First 6 plays of the game, he got whipped on 5 of them. Afterwards they were sending Ekiyor or a TE to double for many plays. Many plays he just whiffs on, hardly lands a hand on a player. Other plays he's getting blown by. On plays where he can engage he doesn't get overwhelmed by power but he also gets no push at all. At best, he's holding ground while getting turned in the wrong direction by the defensive player.
Neal is not perfect but is great, really fun to watch.
Interior play is up and down but not nearly the issue that Owens is. Dalcourt is playing very sound football but can get overwhelmed by power sometimes. The guards are very similar to one another. They both really moved players around when engaged, but struggled to move their feet to get to the assignment quick enough to actually get engaged in the first place. Not an uncommon problem for guards, and I would expect improvement as time goes on.
Definitely some chemistry/communication problems to some extent. Not unusual for a green line early in the season. Some plays where it's clear that someone didn't play the right assignment, but hard to tell exactly who. Some plays where they just don't look sure of how to hand off different twists or blitzes. I expect that to improve.
But the big, glaring weakness out there was Owens. He was just physically struggling to handle Mercer DLinemen in one on one situations. And if he can't handle Mercer players? I don't have high hopes for his abilities in SEC play. Hopefully he magically improves (not counting on it from a 6th year senior) or Latham/George are ready for the job soon.

Good info. Did you playback Owens film from Miami? I’m curious on your thoughts if you did. I don’t remember being as sloppy then compared to the Mercer game.

I saw Dalcourt I believe get blown back like he was shot from a cannon. I hope he was already off balance. If not he was abused and completely blown off his feet and put on his arse. Anyone else see this play?

Chris Owens has always been a liability. He got blown up by Javon Kinlaw at South Carolina in 2019. The next series, Landon Dickerson took his spot and the rest is history. I hope and pray that one of the younger tackles takes over soon because that trip to Texas A&M will be tough with their defense. This weekend will be a good litmus test.

I do remember that play and on our next scoring drive he held his own much better against that NT that flattened him

Dalcourt should continue to get better, but Owens is still struggling in his 6th year. It's time for George and/or Latham to take over at RT.

I just can't believe that he's playing right tackle. He looks so awkward and overwhelmed. Not a tackle body type at all. At some point we have to play the better players even if they're inexperienced.

But, we won the Natl Championship game and playoff with him.

TAMU quarterback is out after surgery yesterday. He wont play vs Ala, and their 2nd string QB is not very good.
It does look like Arky is very physical and will be difficult to deal with.

We won it without a good punter too. Doesn't mean those punters or Owens should be at the top of the depth chart today.
