From a situational perspective, what scenarios was Saban placing the offense in to see how the QBs would respond?
Structurally it was like a typical scrimmage, with a period of drives/punts/FGs, then goal line, then a two-minute drill with time on the clock.
IDK if the play calling was specific or situational for each guy, but most runs were simple dives and most completed passes were short hitches (or maybe those were just our checkdowns). I really only remember one deep pass attempt and one decently long run, which came on a QB scramble.
Several times when there was a sack or a fumble, they reset and let them have another down.
So If I had to guess, it seemed like our new packages are either really ball-control oriented, or they were just running very basic sets on Saturday to see if the QB could read what he was seeing and react appropriately. (Almost like they were forcing them go through their progressions.)
I'm hoping it was simply a case of the coaches putting them in a series of terrible situations just to see if anyone excelled, because offensively we just didn't accomplish much.

Yeah, I heard that too. Let's hope that was it.

Well we know who isn’t so great in the pocket lol.

That's fine... Actually that is great. I don't know anyone that doesn't recognize the physical traits.
But... He had more turnovers than TDs. Fumbles and INTs. And some of that was against bad/exhausted D
I said last year that Jalen already looked as good, if not betterb than Anthony Richardson ,but I didn't see top flight QB from Richardson - just an athletic QB

Comparing a QB to Anthony Richardson as he performed at UF is not a compliment at all IMO.
That guy was a 53% passer with a 17-9 TD-INT ratio. And he still finished with a higher passer rating than Jalen Milroe last year (131 vs 125).
I understand being excited about Milroe from a potential standpoint, but a lot of growth is required because he would've finished 3rd to last in passer rating in the SEC last year ahead of only Haynes King and Robbie Ashford who I'm not even sure will be playing QB this time next year.
To put it in context, I think Anthony Richardson would've been benched last year if he had played at any of the top half schools in the SEC last year. He was drafted on pure potential and athleticism, not any on field accomplishments.

I agree, but in the context of draftable... There is always the team that believes " you can teach a QB to read a defense, but you can't teach a QB to run a 4.4" and that NFL upside is the AR comparison and I think Jalen is at worst on par with AR if not better

There are lots of homer homers who get in through whoever and start the rude seat saving shite.

I hope all our players go on to have long, successful careers in the NFL.
But basing college-level starters on how the NFL views a player is a fool's game.

Every year there are surprises coming out of Fall camp because few people see it and none outside the program are in the film study room where the real evaluation is.
I have no clue who will be the top 2 that will likely play it out in the first game but I do know this.
We better have a better defense, or we're done period.
I believe we will
I believe we will also have a better running game for three reasons, the OL coach has had another season to fix the problem, we have a stable of really good running backs, and I believe we have a better OC to take advantage.
So, good defense, good run game, I'm thinking the specital teams will be good. So the guy who wins the job doesn't have to be NFL ready, he needs to get better every week and be ready to make some key 3rd down throws by week 6. We can survive a loss to Texas because they aren't in the SEC yet. We get Ole Miss at home, I'm assuming Texas A&M has to bounce back from that train wreck last year, but who knows... But normally winning in College Station isn't easy and you'll need the QB to make some plays.

Those teams always draft early for reasons like that. Drafting a QB that needs to learn how to read a defense is usually pissing money away. It has to be a perfect system situation with a lot of surrounding talent to give it a chance to be successful.

This is not the entire truth about Anthony Richardson. Richardson at Florida was a better passer than Milroe has shown. I don't care about any stats. I saw Richardson play against LSU during Mullen's last season and in that game Richardson had a better day passing than Milroe has ever had so far. Here are Richardson's highlights from that game. Milroe has yet to have such a game. LINK
I too think Milroe is comparable to Richardson from a physical perspective but Richardson has proven more as a QB than Milroe at this point.
If Milroe can perform on the level as Jaden Daniels (LSU QB) did last year I think we win the SEC and we're back in the playoff.

Projecting 5 star QBs are one thing while projecting 4 star QBs appears to be crap shoot.

From what I saw from him in the couple games I watched there was good Richardson and bad Richardson.
When the defense gave him looks he could process and the UF OL gave him time to settle he could make some plays and was instant death if you lost contain and he found a seam in the run game.
The problem is that just like Hurts, defenses with the talent to hang with us can take away what he can currently do really well (1 read and go) and then your offense is DOA (see Clemson, UGA, etc) because he hasn’t demonstrated he can make plays downfield with his arm.
We will play a number of defenses capable of making Milroe consistently hit intermediate passes and adjust for coverage and a couple others who will score enough points for us to need to put up 35 to have a chance. To me he has to be able to hit the short to intermediate stuff with accuracy and consistency and he must be able to better read the defense if he is going to give us a chance to win the big games this year.
With mediocre QB play Texas, A&M, UT & LSU are all toss ups. With quality QB play we should be a 1-2 score favorite the entire season until UGA.

First thing first on Milroe - he has to be better with the ball. He cannot turn the ball over like he did last year in limited action. I don't know if that was pocket jitters in his first action or what, but the fumbles because he decided to scramble out of the pocket late and didn't protect the football can't happen this season or he can't play. Point blank.
However, if you look back at the 6.5 quarters he played against A&M and Arkansas and just purely look at production, it really wasn't bad (other than the turnovers which were awful and gave A&M a chance along with Golding gonna Golding). One of the forgotten aspects of the A&M game is that Reichard uncharacteristically missed 2 FGs (one of which was a chip shot). If he makes both those field goals we score 30 points against a pretty decent A&M defense.
If you say those FGs were good, here are the numbers from Milroe's 22 drives against Arkansas and Texas A&M.
vs Arkansas : 8 drives, 35 points, 4.38 points per drive (Arkansas gave up 2.37 PPD on the season)
vs Texas A&M : 14 drives, 30 points, 2.14 points per drive (A&M gave up 1.93 PPD on the season)
Total : 22 drives, 65 points. 2.95 points per drive
So Milroe in those 6.5 qtrs averaged (assuming made kicks) 2.95 PPD.
Know what we averaged vs P5 teams (excluding garbage time) with Bryce at QB last year? 2.97 PPD.

I decided against my better judgement to watch the AM game from last year. Link below.
LINK
Turner and Braswell are going to be really freaking good.
First TD throw by Milroe to Latu was a telegraph but nice throw and catch. He also had two monster runs on that drive. Like 20 yarder and 35 or so yarder.
Milroe fumble 1, hit from behind, hung onto the ball for a while. Wasn’t forever so I’m not upset.
Second touchdown by Milroe, big run by Gibbs first. Then slant to Burton, complete telegraph but good throw and Burton had one guy to beat. TD
Milroe, second fumble was totally his fault. Loaf of bread, bullshite, shouldn’t have happened. Otherwise we continue the drive. Btw again Turner is a freaking dude.
Milroe Interception 1, goes through his reads, sees Burton and releases pretty quick. It’s way underthrown with almost no air underneath it. 2 guys on Burton. I don’t see much good here.
Braswell and Turner force an interception, again this duo is freaking good.
Reichard smokes a long FG after a stupid Burton foul.
Start of the 3rd quarter, AM has made some adjustments.
Milroe first throw is bad, defender drops it or pick 6.
Big run by Gibbs, hand to the face against AM on brooks, short slant to Brooks around the end TD. Good pass by Milroe, led Brooks. Did it right.
Gibbs is straight up thrashing AM and we have a 10 point lead. Jase comes in and coughs the ball up. AM Ball.
Doses of Gibbs, Roydell, short passes and Milroe getting a first with his legs. Milroe massive sack on 3rd and 2. Reichard misses the kick.
3rd and 3. Aggies covering well. Milroe goes through like 5 reads. Finds brooks for the first. Nice job there.
Milroe 3rd and 14 bad pass, almost picked off. Reichard misses again.
Ags make field goal.
Weird misdirection play with Milroe and Jase stuffed on 3rd.
AM almost wins, a few penalties on us puts the ags really close.
So here’s what we know Reichard had 6 points missed. 4 total turnovers with let’s say maybe 2 yielding touchdowns so 20 points. So 44-20. Which is exactly how the game looked for awhile.
Do with it as you will.

I mean we all melted after this game, but after i watched this again. We were beating AM’s arse and then all the turnovers came.
The game should have been completely out of reach and ended with us having 40+ points.
I’m not as worried about Milroe as I thought I was.
Reichard was off, he makes those and nothing AM does matters. We probably sweat some but are like ok.
