After watching that and thinking about all of the praise that Oats has been giving JQ for basically a year now, I don't know how that doesn't get you excited for him. Shouldn't lose too much from the PG position even with Kira leaving.

You mean thank god Battle stepped down. That idiot was about 2 more major decisions away from destroying our athletic program. I shudder to think what would happen if he had to replace CNS.

A hoops blog shows all the scoring highlights. Meanwhile the coaches show the recruits nothing but passing highlights. I love it.

Those highlights were pretty incredible, but the inner coach in me would rather see those passing highlights.

I love Kira, but if we’re being honest he was a below average passer as a PG and he averaged 5.2 assists. I’m interested to see how lucrative Quinerly’s assist numbers will be in Oats system.

Could not agree more. Kira is an obvious NBA talent, but I never felt like he ever really completely clicked in the offense. There would be flashes of it followed with mind numbing decisions that resulted in bad shots or turnovers. As fast as he is, it's like he was moving too fast for his brain to be able to keep up. I felt like he couldn't really see things before they happened like a PG needs to be able to do a lot of times.

If JQ would have been eligible and Kira could have played some 2 guard, I think we could have been even more impressive offensively with that as a back court duo.

I always felt like Kira wasn’t a good enough passer to be point, but wasn’t a good enough shooter to be a 2. His physical talent is off of the charts though

That's pretty close to where I sit too. But as an 18 year old, I can see why the NBA is drooling over his potential to grow into one or the other- with his size PG would be more likely for long term NBA success I would think. Defense will need to improve as well.

I think in today's game he was fine as a point. Not a great passer, but not bad. And really, he played at a super high level offensively last year. Such a high level that I struggle to envision Quinnerly really replacing it (even in a different possibly more pass-first way) at this point.

That being said, Kira was a horrific defensive player. Like I think it's understating it to say he was just bad - he was worse than that. I struggle to think of many, if any, Alabama basketball players since the early 90s that were worse on that end of the court.

None of this is after the fact stuff, this has basically been my take on him the whole time. The offense though was so high level that it made up for it mostly.

He should certainly improve defensively as he matures physically, and he has a ton of potential offensively in the NBA. Shame he's not more in the 6'4/6'5 range.

Not making excuses for Kira and he definitely could have improved on the defensive end but how much of that was because he played 38 minutes a game? Clearly, Kira doesn’t relish playing defense and made a decision either consciously or subconsciously to rest on that end. But perhaps with a lighter load, he could have been persuaded to pick up the effort there.

The one thing I’ll say on Quinerly from those highlights is his handle looks like the best of any guy we’ve ever had (or at least better than anyone I’ve seen).

My only knock on Kira was that he could meltdown in clutch situations. Like last year Florida game he choked.

Arkansas and Tennessee too but I will give him a pass in those games because he literally played every fricking minute and had to be exhausted.

Kira was a fine player but a defender or facilitator he was not.

Not meant to be a knock but I guess it kind of is, I did not want him to take the big shot at the end of a game. I'm sure he made some but I can't remember them.

Not to mention he wasn’t very clutch when we needed big free throws

Yes. Like last years game against UGA doesn’t go to OT if he could make a few FTs and We easily beat UF in regulation if he could.

I hope JQ is reliable at the line. I wonder who is gonna be the guy we get the ball to in late game situations? JQ,Primo, Shack???

Oh shite I forgot about that one. That was awful, but to his credit he did lead the comeback. Talk about depression, that one hurt me

I don’t like Avery but despise his son. He’s your typical kid that was born on 3rd base and has gone through life thinking he hit a triple.
