Karim Mane announces he’s staying in the draft. 5-Star Combo Guard. Great news, that’s another player ahead of Petty which might help to sway him back.

That’s awesome to hear. Sounds like they think he’s going to be a stud.

quote:

“If there are six people I’ve got to go through when I’m recruiting someone,” Oats says, “then I’m done recruiting them.”

Also encouraging to hear we won’t get too deep into the shite just to land a guy.

Oats has me more excited than any coach we’ve had in my lifetime. I may not agree with Byrne’s lack of prioritization for a Coleman renovation, but holy shite did he nail this hire.

I think if it were up to Byrne, a new coliseum would already be under construction, but the reality is our money people don't give a rat's arse about any sport but football. Oats is doing the smartest thing he can to get a new building: 1) WIN 2) buddy up to Saint Nick. If Nick says he needs a new building, he gets a new building. Meanwhile, Byrne works it from the other side.

I know we have a small but significant segment of boosters for hoops that carry some financial weight, but they cannot foot the bill for a coliseum by themselves and they are dwarfed by the FOG money men ranks.

Yeah, I know it’s mostly the FOG boosters’ fault, but as AD he could have organized the fundraiser to essentially hold BDS improvements hostage until Coleman was taken care of. By delaying the Coleman renovation until after the needless BDS improvements were made he essentially allowed the FOGs to donate until BDS was taken care of and slow the donations after that point of the budget was met. And that’s exactly what seems to have happened. I’m not putting the blame on Byrne because you can’t blame a guy for protecting his job, but clearly the organization of that plan was not for the benefit of Coleman.

Not even sure how possible something like this would be, but I wish there would have been a 75/25 split of all money donated until the Coleman renovation was fully funded. 75% of every dollar goes to BDS and 25% goes to Coleman.

Even if 25% is way too much to ask for, having any percentage (10% or 15% idk) of the money earmarked solely for Coleman would have been nice.

For anyone that can't watch the actual video.

quote:

The deadline is near for Huntsville native and Alabama basketball standout John Petty. Either stay in the NBA Draft, or return to Tuscaloosa.

“As of right now, I’m taking it day by day, working out, staying in shape, staying fit,” Petty said during a workout in Huntsville. “It’s plenty of pros and con’s of both going to the NBA, living out my dream, but it’s also a pro of going back to school as well and getting my degree, either one of those really isn’t a bad choice.”

Petty averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 steal per game. He also shot 44 percent from three-point range, earning him Second Team All-SEC honors. JP still connected with his teammates during process.

“I’ve been fine tuned with the team, making sure I’m still one of the leaders on the team, so I’m still connected with everybody, because you never know,” Petty added. “I may have to come back to school, and I may have to play with them next year. So I’m acting as if I’m coming back next year. "

Regardless of his decision, Nate Oats has stayed in constant contact with John. In the end, the decision will fall on the shoulders of the Huntsville native.

“He was always was going to be in my corner, and he kept his word. he checks up on me, he talks to me. I talk to my teammates, like I said, I’m in fine contact with everybody back in Alabama. So, it’s been a great process so far, hopefully it ends the way I want it. As of now, i’m waiting patiently and just being humble.”

That line about Oats being in his corner and keeping his word is great for current recruits to hear coming from someone like John Petty.

I can definitely see how the football season could be cancelled, but basketball will be so much easier to control. With Football the amount of players, coaches, officials and just overall number of staff needed to be tested before every game is astronomical. For Basketball, you could keep that number below 50 and could even get it below 40 if you limit the coaching staff, number of players, and staff. I would be a little surprised if we didn’t have basketball season. But then again, this is Bama basketball and this is the most hyped we’ve been over one of our teams in over a decade or 2. So yeah, we probably won’t have a season.

Sports Analytics 24/7. They're a company ran by Bama fans or at least one Bama fan I think LINK

Sports Analytics 24/7 (@SA247LLC), which apparently is a sports analytics and wagering website that I randomly just came across on my Twitter feed. I think I follow someone that retweeted it or something. Don't know a single thing about them, but apparently they really like us this year because this appears to be their second wager like this on us. They made this comment when they posted that picture of their wager:

quote:

Yes... we went back & fired more at worse odds! ROLL TIDE

That would take some of the excitement away imo. Would have been more exciting if it was someone without any bias towards us.

Speaking of Avery, how does everyone feel about him now?

Before he took the Bama job, I always kind of liked him peripherally. He never played for a team that I rooted for or anything, but every time I saw him (mostly in his playing days, before he ever got into coaching) he was always smiling and seemed like a great guy/teammate.

Over a year after his Bama tenure ended, I still have a mostly negative opinion of him tbh. Some of that is probably because of some of the stories I heard about Cassandra mixed with how I saw his son act and interact on Twitter. Those things aren't necessarily his fault, but he obviously didn't put an end to any of that happening either.

Bill Battle is also to blame for him ever even being hired here in the first place. Was almost as bad as the Goff hire. Either way, thank god Avery was fired.

This staff is so much better it's ridiculous.
