Man, I don't like Riley Quick.

Tamez with 2 home runs on the day. Johnson comes up lame after an awkward move to get safely to first base. Portera comes in to replace him. 10-1 good guys top of the 7th.

This program has been slightly above hot garbage status ever since Wells retired.

Will Portera with the walk off mercy rule win (if that is such a thing)

FINAL | 11-1 Alabama

He’s been in several times - but wow on his performance today! Quite the jam he worked out of.
His sister was on the softball team a few years back (so I guess that makes him a legacy of sorts)

You’re a bama information guru, so I’ll ask, how many conference games has he pitched in?
Posted on 4/7/23 at 2:50 pm to Kashmir
First conference game he’s pitched in, according to the stats on RollTide.com.
11 innings pitched prior to today.

Pitching decisions for the last 6 years leave a lot to be desired.

He wasn’t necessarily lighting it up in midweek games coming into today. This might have lit a spark in him. He was electric.

He has come on strong the last few games but he’s also had his struggles at times too. (Understandable since he’s a freshman - Alton's stats). He pitched an inning against Troy Tuesday night as well. Happy to see him get Bama out of that bind today.
Kade, Hagan, Connor, Braylon, Zane and Brayden have all had good outings and some not so good outings out of the bullpen.
That’s been the challenge with our pitching this year - no predictable reliever yet in the mold of Chase Lee, Dylan Ray, Nathan Kilcrease, Brock Guffey. (And not always a predictable starter)
Good win today. Hitt’s up next - Get another W tomorrow then prepare for USM on Tuesday!

We have to win tomorrow. Have to.

We are set up well to do so
MSU has given up 17, 11, and 14 in their “Sunday games” in conference.
As long as Hitt doesn’t absolutely shite the bed, we should be good. We also have some good arms ready in the pen.

Alabama is among the leaders in the SEC in fewest runs allowed in “Sunday games”. Mississippi State is at the bottom. Let’s hope that holds true.

Box Score
quote:
Alabama secured a run-rule victory in seven innings with an 11-1 win over Mississippi State on Friday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide is now 23-9 on the season and 4-7 in Southeastern Conference play.
Alabama was first on the board with a five-run second that would prove more than enough. State was next to score with one in the top of the fifth but a three-run home half of that inning put the game at 8-1. The Tide then added two in the sixth with an RBI-single from Will Portera in the seventh ending things early.
Dominic Tamez led the Tide offense with a two-homer performance. The junior added a team-high four RBI and two runs scored to his stat line. Also homering was Ed Johnson, who finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Drew Williamson rounded out the multi-hit performances for UA, with the first baseman going 2-for-4 and adding three RBI, one run and a walk.
Luke Holman (5-1) earned the win in his start against the Bulldogs. The sophomore tossed 5.2 innings of one-run baseball, giving up three hits and walking a pair while striking out four. Alton Davis II also highlighted the effort on the mound, tossing 1.0 scoreless frame with two strikeouts.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"We came out hot. We had some good at-bats and took some borderline pitches to work some walks in. Obviously, the second inning we put up the five-spot, and then Luke (Holman) gave us a great start. Mississippi State helped us today – they walked us and gave us some free baserunners, but to our kids' credit we got some big hits. Ed Johnson and Drew Williamson came through and then Dominic Tamez with the two home runs today."
