UNEVEN: College Baseball’s Scholarship Issue

I post this periodically - it’s a 40 min documentary about the baseball scholarship issue in general and it’s exacerbated at Bama in relation to the rest of the SEC because of the lack of other options to be financially competitive (education lottery, out of state tuition waivers, endowed scholarships).

It features Greg Byrne and the former baseball coach.

UA’s student body growth has come largely from out of state students and they can’t selectively waive out of state tuition just for athletes.

They can if they want to. Hell, other athletes get many perks such as tutoring , medical , training table , psychologists etc that normal students do not, so it should not come as a surprise to anybody. Plus, nobody has to know or UA doesn’t have to broadcast what they are getting anyway bc baseball players receive different amounts anyway. UA is being a cheap arse about this . We are not talking about many students here .

Freshman RHP Brock Blatter is also in the portal, we have learned.

Blatter pitched 8.0 innings over six games with an ERA of 4.50.

Shelton reportedly in the portal…FUUUUCCCKKK!!

Why would a slugger that led the team in homers hit the portal immediately after Bama hired a new coach whose strong suit is improving hitters/slugging?

Hopefully, his teammates tell him to hit the road, that he is not their brother in arms.

The timing was just coincidental and has little to nothing to do with the new coach. It’s been known for a while that Shelton was transferring at the end of the year. Apparently, he wasn’t quite about his intentions to leave.

SCOOP: @AlabamaBSB will hire Anthony Papio as its second full-time assistant on Rob Vaughn’s staff, @d1baseball has learned. Papio has a good rep and spent the last two seasons as a Maryland assistant. He joins Jason Jackson on the staff. #RollTide

Jarvis Earns ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Honors at Shortstop

Jarvis is the Crimson Tide’s first Gold Glove winner since 2013 and just the third winner in program history

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama's Jim Jarvis was named an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove recipient at shortstop, the organizations announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Jarvis is just the third player in Crimson Tide history to be recognized with Gold Glove honors, joining Taylor Dugas (2011) and Kyle Overstreet (2013).
