It appears as though the umpires are there to make sure teams don't showboat too much first, and call the game correctly, second.

It’s hard to quantify how much that missed strikeout turned HR changed the game. We had all the momentum and the strikeout to end the inning would have continued that. Wake was starting to lose confidence and our body language was strong. That play changed everything, and it’s hard for the underdog to regroup after something like that. Got to keep fighting though
