Alabama baseball suffered a 6-2 loss to 12th-ranked Kentucky on Friday evening at Kentucky Proud Park. Following the series opener, the 11th-ranked Crimson Tide is now 22-8 on the season and 4-6 in Southeastern Conference play.
A low-scoring affair early, Kentucky struck first with a single tally in the second. Alabama then got on the board to start the fifth with a run of its own, sending the game to the home half knotted up at one apiece. The tie would not last long as the Wildcats posted three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to put the game out of reach. The Tide continued to battle, reaching the leadoff man in each of the final five innings but crossed just one run in the seventh for the 6-2 final.
The win went to Trey Pooser (3-0), who tossed 7.0 innings of two-run baseball, giving up six hits and issuing one walk to go with three strikeouts. Alabama's Ben Hess (3-2) suffered the loss despite a solid start. The junior allowed five runs on four hits and four walks with nine strikeouts across 5.1 innings of work.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"All in all, (Kentucky) just did the little things that they needed to do better than we did tonight. We can pout about it, we can be mad about it, and I can sit here and yell about it, or we can acknowledge it and try to grow from it. We need to come out and try to be a little bit better version of who we are tomorrow."

The definition of “solid start” has really changed from what it used to be!
Hess puts lots of guys on base and they usually end up scoring.

Agree with that for sure. His stuff is there but terrible control and also giving up a lot of homers, although that didn’t happen last night. This season had optimism based on a good 1-2 punch with him and Quick. That obviously hasn’t happened.

Sorry but 4 walks in 5 innings doesn't equate to "a solid start", especially when 4 hits are added.

13 walks in 16 innings is just pathetic!

Why is Wimp Sanderson's grandson going to play baseball at au next year?

I’m clearly no expert but the pitching is incredibly suspect on this team. Not much can be done about it and I wouldn’t be surprised if this year’s team has a losing record because of it.

Bama blanked for the first time this season. Really thought this was the best chance for a win this series. Hoping the freshmen can deliver a “miracle on ice” moment today to avoid the sweep. Arkansas awaits next weekend.

Alabama baseball was blanked by 12th-ranked Kentucky, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Kentucky Proud Park. The loss clinched the series for the Wildcats and moved the 11th-ranked Crimson Tide to 22-9 on the season and 4-7 in Southeastern Conference play.
Kentucky built a 3-0 lead after three frames, plating one in the first and two in the second. The Wildcats added four in the sixth to make it a 7-0 affair, the eventual final. The shutout loss was the Tide's first this season.
Dominic Niman (6-2) tossed a complete game for the shutout win. The graduate allowed just three hits and did not issue a walk while striking out seven across 100 total pitches. Greg Farone (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season despite a solid outing on the mound. The senior gave up three runs on three hits and five walks with six strikeouts across 5.0 innings pitched.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"(Dominic Niman) did a really good job of attacking us. Every pitch was competitive, he was around the zone and he was mixing pitches well. He just did a good job overall. I thought the longer the game went and the more we didn't have stuff going our way, the more we started pressing. We have to do a good job of regrouping and coming out tomorrow as a better version of ourselves."
