Alabama now presses forward at the SEC tournament knowing it won’t have Prielipp or fellow starting pitcher Antoine Jean, who’s also on the shelf for the duration of the season because of a shoulder impingement. Jean is expected to return to the mound at the Cape Cod League this summer.
Yea - that was a nice little kick to the balls after being shot in the face.
I mean we should have seen this coming but I had convinced myself we'd have him healthy and ready to go in 2022 along with Jean. This really, really frickin sucks.

Prielipp to have Tommy John surgery tomorrow and be out for 2022. He will finish his Alabama career with 2 innings pitched in SEC play.

The hard-throwing lefthander had a terrific fall. He was 92-95 and up to 96 mph with his fastball in the fall, along with a filthy 88-90 mph slider and a mid-80s changeup. He drew comparisons to former high first-round pick Asa Lacy in the fall and was primed to have a massive spring. He was going to change the dynamic for the Crimson Tide.

Please tell me they weren't letting a kid with 1st round talent pitch with a partial UCL tear. Because that'd be completely indefensible.

I have to hope it was one of those recurring tightness issues that just never went away and that we didn't see/find any specific damage.
Because, if there was damage and we let him try to push through.......there's no defense.

21 of which were in a season that didn't make it to SEC play
Good times!

Yeah that'd be some Nolan Ryanesque "I'm a medical miracle and you're a pussy for not being one too" nonsense.

Connor Prielipp to Undergo Tommy John Surgery (SI)
The sophomore ace for the Crimson Tide will miss the remainder of the 2021 season

Dear lord.
Wouldn’t have much luck if it weren’t all bad.

Alabama has already faced Tennessee this season in a three-game series where neither team had quite gotten into gear just yet. The Crimson Tide was able to best the Volunteers in the series opener, 7-4, but fell in the next two games — albeit by close margins on both occasions.
Since that series in the opening weekend of April, Tennessee has gone 13-8 in SEC play for an overall 20-10 record in the conference. Alabama, on the other hand, has gone 10-10 since that date. Granted, the Crimson Tide had to face two of the conference's top teams in Vanderbilt and Mississippi State. That being said, the Volunteers had to handle Florida, Vanderbilt and Arkansas, so call it even in terms of strength of schedule.
A win on Wednesday would dramatically increase Alabama's chances of reaching an NCAA Regional. The victory over the Gamecocks on Tuesday proved that the Crimson Tide is not going to leave the tournament quietly, and if the same Alabama team shows up against Tennessee, it could be one of the Crimson Tide's more memorable games this season.

The Crimson Tide and Volunteers met back on Easter weekend in April for a three-game set at Thomas-Sewell Stadium in Tuscaloosa with Tennessee winning two out of three.
However, one of Alabama's losses came in extra innings and the other one was a 9-8 thriller where the Crimson Tide left the tying run 90 feet from home plate.
Alabama will almost certainly need another win in Hoover to feel better about its chances about playing in an NCAA regional for the first time since 2014. The victory against South Carolina guarantees it two more games but the Crimson Tide isn't backing down from the conference's best.

I will never forgive China for the COVID ending a promising 2020 season. I think we had the tools to make a regional last year. We were a better overall team and it's a shame we didn't get to prove that in SEC play last season

If we win today I think we have 3 shots to find 1 win over Friday - Sunday.
3 Top 20 wins in Hoover would put us in, I think. Not positive, but definitely right there in the thick of it.

McNairy starting? Have to assume he's only going 2-3 innings. Wonder what the plan the rest of the way is.
