Alabama-Vanderbilt Sunday Matchup Officially Canceled
The Sunday matchup between Alabama and Vanderbilt has been officially canceled.
The Crimson Tide and Commodores made it through 1.0 full inning of play before rain forced a delay. The two teams sat in a just under two-hour rain delay before officially canceling the game. The Sunday matchup will not be made up.

Why? We have locked up a spot in Hoover.

We have to win one of the remaining 2 series, IMHO, to make the NCAAT. We won't get in without a magical Hoover run if we finish 30-21 (13-16) considering our record vs other NCAA Tournament probables.
3-0 vs Wright State
1-2 vs Arkansas
0-1 vs Southern Miss
0-3 vs Ole Miss
1-2 vs Tennessee
0-2 vs Vanderbilt
5-10 vs NCAA Tournament probables
2-9 vs P5 NCAA Tournament probables
Put that with a 13-16 SEC record and a 30ish RPI and I don't think it'd be enough.

Win the Ole Miss game and that Tennessee game and we're sitting at 30-15 (13-10) and would have to collapse not to make the NCAAT.
Sigh
As is the case at all levels of baseball, nothing is a bigger boost or downer than a sweep. Teams like ours just cannot get swept because it's so hard to make it up. That Ole Miss sweep was a damn dagger. Especially because they aren't a team that much better than us, certainly not get swept at home better.

Basically, we have to win the series in Baton Rouge this weekend, IMHO. Taking 2 of 3 from State is going to be really, really difficult, and I think the odds of us getting swept by State are better than us winning the series (unfortunately).
They've won 14 of their last 18 SEC games (will probably be 17 of their last 21 after this weekend at home vs Mizzou). They've only lost series to #1 Arkansas and #2 Vanderbilt. They've swept Auburn, Kentucky and A&M. And, as noted above, we haven't proven we can win against really good teams in the league (2-9 vs the Top 3 teams in the East/West).

Yep, each game of that series was a new gut punch.
Leading 3-1 after eight and gave up 8 runs T9 in game one of a DH - I mean, what can even be said about that? Had great pitching (until the debacle) and just enough offense for a nice win.
Game two of DH - lost 2-0. Pitching was good enough again to pick up a win, but the offense did nothing coming off the heels of the epic choke job in game one earlier in the day.
Lost 11-6 in game three. The bats were working well enough to win, but our pitching was shite and gave up 11 earned runs.
Just a brutal series that saw us get swept. We definitely (and obviously) should have taken game one, but both of the other two games could have been ours as well if we played with a bit more consistency.

Looks like his only recorded event was the 2020 WWBA in Jupiter. He was 16 at the time, so velocity can probably be taken with a grain of salt.
Gavin Jones - PG Profile
6-3, 205
86-91 FB (topped at 91)
Side note, I played in the 2002 WWBA Championships in Jupiter. I got hit in the back by Sean Rodriguez and hit a groundball to 2B against Matt Bush. Extremely impressive stuff
