We are 60th in the portal ranking at the moment.15th in the SEC. You really think we’re that poor?
So we should spend money on players that may not be worth the money just so we can up our ranking? That's ignorance.

You folks are missing the forest for the trees. All of these schools with “billionaires” also have staggering living alumni bases.

The US university with the most LIVING alumni right now is Indiana University. Over 800k alumni that are alive to donate. They are hungry to win.

Oregon and Texas Tech being the exceptions.

Everything, whether its not being prepared for game/field conditions to not having papers signed, adds up.

Who cares because the talent we had coming into the season according to the recruiting rankings was on par with every playoff team if not better.

I actually had some, and for something like this, it's actually really good...FWIW.

Broke no but Alabama does not have Texas money or Michigan or Ohio state money. I think this staff with Alabamas NIL limitations are going to have to find players from smaller schools who were overlooked and coach them up. I have no inside knowledge on finances or the program itself but this seems to be the logical conclusion. Alabama is not going to overpay so us fans can’t thump our chest about portal rankings. If BeBoer strikes out this offseason and Alabama finishes 8-4 or worse then we can begin discussions about moving on but until that happens this is all just conjecture.

Agree with pretty much all of this except:

I think this is exactly why we courted Cam Coleman. Unless we were just having him visit to stir AU up which is certainly possible.

No, we will have one of the top ten payrolls in college football. There are some prices we aren't willing to pay. Indiana's estimated full roster cost (NIL + revenue share) is essentially the same as ours in 2025.

The idea that we have to spend 30+ million dollars to put a winner on the field just doesn't hold up to scrutiny. The top 4 spenders are all on the sidelines like us heading into the championship game. Miami only spent ~4m more than us, not 10m.

According to people who know nothing about what any other team is paying.

The facts we actually have are that other teams openly outbid us for the same talent and pay much more for the positions we have already secured.

Don’t you just love what college football has become. You have to buy your rosters every offseason

I understand what you mean and that seems to be the case but I think what you said in the first sentence can be said of the assertion in the second.

Well the second part says it all no?

We aren't paying 4-6 millon on a QB and don't pay multiple skills players +2 million.

Even at the mention of these numbers we're considered out. Yet we have seen Michigan, Oregon, OSU, Texas, A&M, Texas Tech, Miami and even now LSU, ND and Indiana not even flinch because they have specific outside booster funding this.

Our AD is not happy with our collective, so it looks that way. But my question is where do you get those figures?
It’s obvious we cannot hang with the big dogs. So do you stay away from the 3plus million players and just try to get a group of solid players We obviously don’t have the money to compete.
I think it’s time to make a statement and just withdraw from ncaa football. It’s nothing but buying players. Nothing about College Athletes. Do any of them attend a class?

I don't see how Bama could offer Cam 2 million and that set well with the other 84 players. We're talking young folks and with most make 60K per year and Bama offers 2 million would create a problem with the rest.

Damn if you do and damn if you don't

We are slow-walking (okay maybe running) into an era of pseudo ownership of college sports. Most of the billionaires pumping money into schools aren't multi-billionaires that can buy a professional franchise, so they are making a move in college sports. At some point with these folks they are going to want either control of the organization or financial ROI. This is a strange era and I fear the next steps are going to be even more unpalatable.
