Don't know, but the guy still flashed at the All-Star event playing against top players, so I don't think it's really a talent issue that's going on.

I'm not alluding to his talent level. I'm alluding to his ability to handle adversity.

I mean, it's doubtful that the guy ever has played against anyone as good as him, but isn't that the case for basically every single player on the roster before they get here?

Kinda melts the star rating these analysts use. Alot of 5 star become 3 stars quickly when they get to campus.

The disconnect you get right now is the difference in language used between Alfano's dad and coach Saban. Saban's tone and words that he chose carefully suggested he was making poor academic choices and then somehow compounding it by not addressing them. Alfano's dad speaks almost exclusively about family issues.

That type of disconnect has me thinking Alvin Kamara/Anoma type of issues more than family obligations. Coach Saban's next presser should be interesting.

If he transfers, I would think Locks would be a big player for his services unless UM isn’t inside the 100 mile radius of his home for a hardship waiver.

These threads are always a gross display of the entitlement of some Alabama football fans.

ETA - edited to correct that to some Alabama football fans.

Yeah, he's home sick alright. Home sick for being recruited.

A lot of these kids don't want to play football. They just want attention.

It's time to start hammering other schools for tampering with Alabama's players. No way this kid, or Anoma had no contact with other schools after signing.

I remember my brother passing away after an illness when I was in college - it was tough, real tough. But . . . I had to go to class.

Maybe he will decide to come back. Especially with Saban and his dad telling him he should

It's almost as if people handle grief in different ways.

Yep. I lived with my grandfather my first few years at Alabama. Came home from class one day to find him laying in the back yard with broken hip. He never left the hospital. I don't remember a thing about the semester after that, but I had to retake a few classes the next semester. I wish the kid peace. However and wherever he can find it.

Family issues and transfer portals go together like Coke and Goldern Flake these days. The family situation may be serious enough but it sounds like a whole lot of gears are turning on this one.

Imo, the adjustment to be made is to quit signing kids with deep-seated character issues -- leave them behind. Why waste signing spots, time and resources on them, when there's a high risk they won't mesh well with Bama's program culture? For example: 2020 5-star RB Zachary Evans has elite talent but isn't worth the trouble that comes with him -- he's a lot like VanDarius Cowan.

This is the mindset of someone being too stubborn to adapt.

If we do this then we will see top talent leave every year.

It isn't about character. All of these kids want to be coddled. Saban has to find a balance between carrot and stick. It can't just be stick anymore.

You know, you're exactly right. Let's drag this young man's name through the mud though with wild speculation on a situation we know very little about because he may not ever suit up for our beloved Crimson Tide.

How dare he do this to us!

A lot more is known than is being put out there.. I’m sure Saban will address it soon, but there is a lot more than the parents are putting out there on Twitter. Remember that’s just one side, and Saban has a game to focus on. You can’t lie to coach.. and then continue to do so. I’m sure Boz can confirm..

I will say this.. coach would never use a family illness as a reason to call a player out or use the player as an example to the team. He is companionate about issues like that..even if it leads to missing class.( which is one of the issues) but this is a compounding of a few issues, and the illness is another issue in itself and Alfano skipped his meeting with Saban to clear the air this week, even after meeting him and talking out issues for a THIRD time a few weeks ago.

Best thing that can happen is Alfano is in Saban’s office Monday morning.. well class than office.

Or, we could just be patient and the info will probably be in our inbox soon if we subscribe to all the Bama news worth knowing. In the meantime, portal transfers, immediate eligibility, NCAA transparency, are not exclusively a Bama problem. So no one should melt if discussed. This problem looks like it's here to stay.

The family illness is what led to the rebellious behavior.

His parents aren't lying and Saban has been pretty soft handling this.

Saban has only spoken about Alfano's reaction to facing adversity. He disappeared (which Alfano's parents confirmed).

The kid isn't himself and is taking the situation badly.

It's not that crazy. Hence why Saban needs to manage the situation not do something moronic like some people here suggest by using even more stick.

Now is the time for carrot.

This is why having coaches like Tosh Lupoi was so important. As a player we need to have those guys who can talk to us and calm us. Ones who can relate to whatever BS that's going on at the moment.

It can't always be some punishment, yelling, wrath that some of you seem obsessed about.

I agree. They need to get the guy in therapy and go from there. Forget football for awhile.
