Do you need to really ask?

Hmm. Haven't seen Daphne on this list in a while.

Another year Hartselle should be undefeated until they play a Bham team in the playoffs. Beating Vigor in 2011 at Bryant-Denny my junior year was probably the last time something like that will happen for us unfortunately

Hopefully my alma mater, the Oxford Yellow Jackets, can make some noise this year. We won a state championship back in 2019 under first year head coach Keith Etheredge. However, our stupid city council refused to pay what the man was owed and he ended up leaving the program after two seasons for Auburn High School.

Even back in the olden days when I went to HS in Huntsville, the city was known more for Soccer, Swimming, Wrestling, etc.

In northwest Alabama Muscle Shoals and Mars Hill Bible School are the strongest programs. But when Mars Hill started winning state championships they bumped them to 2A then to 3A. They barely average 50 students per class. Muscle Shoals is close, but hasn’t been able to break through. Deshler after having been a state championship contender for 25 years has had trouble keeping coaches. Then players are transferring to Muscle Shoals. But the big time power houses such as Hazlewood and Courtland doesn’t exist anymore. Colbert County High is now hemorrhaging players to Muscle Shoals. So it will never be the same either.

Everything over there changed when Basden showed up at MS and his buddy Alvin Briggs with the AHSAA turned a blind eye to his blatant recruiting.

Amazing how all of those elite athletes happen to live within the small community of Alabaster, Alabama.

Anyone have a source/link to high school games on tv? Particularly with Alabama commits?

Schools are newer, less funding, no HS football culture (participation is pretty low)

Thompson has a few things going for it.
1. It is a city system. It used to be part of Shelby County, which meant its sports were tied to what the county was doing. So the football coach at Thompson was supposed to make the same as the one at Oak Mountain or Calera. Same for spending on facilities. Most schools that are good in football aren't part of larger districts. The top 5 in 7A are all city school systems with 1 or 2 high schools, not larger districts.
2. Alabaster is cheap. I know several Hoover kids who have moved to Alabaster to get a home that's the same cost as renting an apartment. Most weren't athletes.

I’m convinced Clay Chalkville has someone on the board specifically meant to sabotage Trussville since 1998 because of course as soon as Trussville gets a coach that won TWO state titles in Arkansas, they’re moved up to 7A.
Absolutely ridiculous that Clay is sitting in 6A while the city right next to them is in 7A. They probably didn’t want Hewitt monopolizing 6A.

Clay-Chalkville undoubtedly belongs in 7A.
