I pretty sure. He was hired the same offseason as Jeff Stoutland.

Sources tell EerSports that West Virginia has officially hired Alabama defensive assistant Doug Belk to fill the cornerbacks coach position in Morgantown. The move is something that has been in the works and discussed on the board for over a week. Despite reports that Belk was hired early in the week, he did not interview until this week.

Belk has been a part of the Crimson Tide staff since 2014, mostly as a defensive graduate assistant that worked with the cornerbacks. Prior to that, he was the secondary coach at Valdosta State, winning a Division II national title there before winning a National Championship with the Tide after the 2015 season. He played his college ball at Division II Carson-Newman University, lining up as both a quarterback and wide receiver.

Hell yea!

My wife and I sat next to his mom on the plane ride from Atlanta to Dallas 2 years ago for the Cotton Bowl. She was awesome and said he absolutely loved being a GA and had learned more in the one year than every other year of football in his life.

If our two options for OC are really Daboll and Godsey, then barf

Godsey
2015 (HOU) - 31st YPP, 22nd Pts
2016 (HOU) - 31st YPP, 29th Pts

Daboll
2009 (CLE) - 32nd YPP, 29th Pts
2010 (CLE) - 27th YPP, 31st Pts
2011 (MIA) - 22nd YPP, 20th Pts
2012 (KC) - 28th YPP, 32nd Pts

I like a Panunnzio hire. He was never officially named in the Miami fiasco, for various reasons. You need a guy like that.

As for leaks, think of a plumber, ironically. Not Bayou Billy.

I get they were both in bad situations, but there isn't a single successful season of coordinating between the both of them. Not one.

At best it's an unknown. At best.

Daboll had a decent year in Miami. Took the team from 30th in total offense to 20th. I would consider that successful.

I actually like the idea of Daboll or Godsey. The offenses they run are much closer to what we need than someone like Chip. Daboll especially has helped develop some pretty good WRs and TEs. Hell, he turned a well past his prime Martellus Bennett into a serviceable tight end.

I like the idea of them (as in, the idea of the concepts they believe in), but I haven't seen any evidence that they are the guys I want running the systems.

I mean, it is what it is. At this point I'd probably prefer Daboll over Godsey solely because of Belichick's trust in him regarding taking over for Josh McDaniel, but that also might mean he leaves after 1 year.

That's pouring it on a little strong considering he's 29 and his 3 best years have come in the last 4 years.

He's a diva, he's not washed up...

Even if we aren't inspired by the new hire there is so much talent on this team that an average coach will probably look elite. Hell we fielded a pretty damn good one last year and put up a lot of points on everybody not named LSU and we did it with a freshman quarterback who struggled with the passing game. We are gonna roll in 17.

Yea, we won't be terrible, but as always if we want to win titles we'll need somebody who can beat elite defenses.

Who knows, neither of these guys seem very proven, but all I know is what's on paper.

I feel you. I am just trying to make myself feel better because it looks like we are looking at a very meh hire.

I would love a splash hire, but a meh hire to us is not the same as a meh hire for most teams due to our talent and our coaching staff as a whole.

If either is a commitment to the brand of Alabama offense that won 4 national titles and dominated TOP I'm all for him. It wasn't broke Saban didn't need to fix it.

He wasn't going to be left behind either. Equivalent to Bryant moving to the wishbone in 1971. But even more proactive. Bryant had unproductive 1969 and 1970 seasons to finally convince him. Saban saw it coming. Rest assure that the pro style and spread will still be married in future Alabama offenses.

As has been said, we won a title with Doug freakin Nussmeier. We won a title with Lane Kiffin who didn't look so hot in the NFL either.

On the subject of NFL coordinators, the NFL is an ENTIRELY different game. It almost bares no similarities. Heisman winning QBs go to the NFL and do nothing.
Chip Kelly, who everyone wanted so badly, sucked arse in the NFL. Nick Saban didn't suck in the NFL, but he didn't exactly light it up.
At the end of the day, if Nick likes whoever the candidate is, thinks the guy can really help our offense, and be a good recruiter, I'm sold. We kinda got blindsided by this, so we're not in the best hiring position right now. I think whoever Saban chooses will be fine.

Yea, that's fine, but there's no history of success at any level. Again, no history of in game play calling excellence. Only failure. It's a gamble, regardless of how bright a mind someone might have.

Plenty of NFL failures habe come to college with that line of thinking and been similar failures. The flip side is just because a guy is an NFL OC doesn't automatically mean he'd succeed in college. See Brian Schottenheimer.

Lane had a history of success calling plays in college.

I call bullshite. We are being smokescreened, baws. CNS can find a better OC than two suck arse NFL rejects. It's somebody who's still under the radar.

Haha I don't think it's a smokescreen, but I'm also pretty sure there is no reason to assume it's one of these guys. Unless I missed something?
