We keep hearing about this non-compete clause, but who is going to enforce it? I'd be willing to bet there is some form of monetary penalty that could be paid to get around it.

There is but I think it's huge.

Chip Jelly wouldn't be here long enough for the ink to dry. Lincoln Riley is looking for a HC job and he's not leaving where he is at. If Dan Enos comes to Bama I'll be sore for weeks.

Court of Law most likely.
Okie State sued Joe Wickline for 600k(his remaining salary) for breach of contract for taking a lateral job with Texas.
They eventually settled for 250k. Enos just got another extension, so I'm sure that number is larger than what Wickline had left on his contract.

Sounds delicious

Anything less than $500K is peanuts for our program.
Saban wouldn't let that amount of money keep him from hiring whoever he wants.

Just found an article regarding Enos' contract. His base salary is $750K with a $350K buyout.
We could cover that with ease.

There's no telling what the number is. That's just assuming they are identical, but Wickline was an OL coach.
I think the bigger issue is just the whole process, I'm sure Enos wouldn't want to go through all that for another OC job.

Fat Bert would load up busses with the offensive players and go to Enos's house

Do you mean that the "insiders" haven't revealed the hire yet?

Wickline got a raise to 400k in 2011, he left in 2014 with 2 years left on his contract.
He was required, per contract, to pay 100% of his gross base monthly salary in effect at the time of termination and remaining due. That number came out to be $593,478, but they settled later for around 250k.
Dan Enos recently got bumped up to 800k a year, and will jump up 50k the next 2 years. Meaning he has at least 3 more years on contract.
I'm betting he'd be more than Wickline, who at least had a title promotion at Texas(but couldn't prove he called plays)....

The joy thing I can find on Enos contract is he has a 350k buyout plus a noncompete clause but it doesn't specify if that prevents him or if there would be a huge fee.

I submitted my name for the position today. I'll let you know how my interview with Coach Saban goes.
Posted on 2/7/17 at 7:41 pm to MagillaGuerilla
I'm thinking Saban just might try to get Napier back. It makes some sense. .

I think if Saban knew Sark was leaving and he wanted Napier he wouldn't have let him go to Arizona State.
Napier may have left because he would have been passed up for our OC two times in one offseason.
