The athletic curse of 2022 continues….

Vault was brutal. I'm becoming more and more convinced Betty White's death cursed the entire athletics department

Excellent on beam so far but it's over so long as Auburn doesn't completely fall apart on the floor (never seen it).

As bad as it started, a 197.125 was a small silver lining to come away with from this outing. Back home next Friday.

to win consistently you are going to need 197.75 or higher against top rated teams. And to advance to the final 6 you may need to pull out a 198.00. If we can get in the 197 range and have a perfect meet then you may win something at the SEC T and beyound.
So we still on the coaches bandwagon

I think this is a very deep and talented team. Even the Barns Olympic Gold gymnast fell off the beam in their first meet.

The beam performance in particular was incredible. I think the final included scores were all 9.9+ and multiple 9.95+ despite a rough start on vault/ars. My understanding is that is almost expected from Bama this year
How have you about Duckworth? On one hand she's won SEC etc but feel like she's underperforming overall. Bama gymnastics should be natl contenders annually not sure she's giving that

The gymnastics program hasn’t kept up with some top programs (Oklahoma, Florida) and other programs have caught up (Arkansas, LSU, auburn). Attendance is definitely down, but not sure about season ticket purchases. (And talk about crappy seating for students - can’t believe they even come, but that’s for another thread).
Last year’s SEC championship bought Dana some more time with the fans. If she can show continued success, we could have her for several more decades. Recruiting appears to be going very well. The degree of difficulty in routines is definitely higher, but they need to start sticking those landings to realize the benefit. Folks want to see Bama consistently competing for National Championships, especially in a sport with a history of success.
I noticed in my Tide Pride account there’s an entry for gymnastics but nothing by it. I’m guessing that’s on someone’s radar but until attendance gets back to Patterson era levels, it could have the opposite effect. I’m sure Byrne is keeping a watchful eye - but he’s got his work cut out for him with another women’s program at the moment…….
Adding some additional info: Bama has scored it’s highest score ever in a home opener and its highest January road score ever this season. Had two National Champions in floor and beam last year as well. Signed the #1 recruiting class this year. Things are moving in a positive direction - just need to keep it going. Also, Dana is 51 (time flies) so ‘several more decades’ as coach is not likely.
