Alabama Gymnastics Set for Thursday’s NCAA Championships Semifinals in Fort Worth

The Crimson Tide gymnastics team went through its final practice of the season Wednesday and is now set to compete in Thursday's NCAA Championships Semifinal Thursday at 12 p.m. CT at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Tide will face Oklahoma, Utah and Minnesota with the top-two teams from each semifinal advancing to Saturday's finals. Florida, Auburn, Michigan and Missouri will compete in Thursday's second semifinal session. Alabama will start on the uneven bars, then advance to the balance beam and floor exercise before closing on the vault.

Both semifinal sessions will air live on ESPN2 with extended coverage being streamed via WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app.

Alabama Head Coach Dana Duckworth Said
"All season this team has been about intensity passion and heart. They are at their best when being free, fierce and having fun and that's why we've enjoyed so much success. This team has been grateful and excited to compete week in and week out with one another in a sport they are all passionate about. We are humble but hungry and have a unique bond. We now head to Fort Worth as one team with one goal. I believe in this team and their resilience as they will fight to the very end with everything they have."

Disastrous meet for the Tide. Started off bad and got worse.

Crimson Tide finishes with a 197.100, its lowest scores since week two against Florida. Too many little mistakes added up for Alabama today, and the season will once again end in the semifinals. Alabama does not get strong landings and consequently does not put up good scores.

Feel badly for our team, they surely are disappointed.

Always nice to be in contention for a championship. Should have a strong team next year.

Alabama Gymnastics Closes Season in NCAA Championships Semifinals

The Alabama gymnastics team closed its season Thursday in the NCAA Championships Semifinals after scoring a 197.100 and taking fourth place in the first of two sessions at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

While Alabama's final national ranking will be determined following the second semifinal session, the Tide is guaranteed to finish in the top eight by virtue of advancing to NCAA Championships' final site. Alabama made its 38th appearance as a team at the final site, a total matched by Florida, with only Utah having been to more.

Alabama has now posted 37 top-eight finishes since NCAA competition began in 1982 and the Tide and Utah are the only two programs to finish in the top-12 nationally in the final rankings every year since NCAA gymnastic' inaugural season.

Luisa Blanco tied for the top score of the session on the balance beam and will have to wait until after the second semifinal to see if she defended her 2021 NCAA beam title.

Head Coach Dana Duckworth Said
"This team loves one another; they are so close, and they have gelled in such a unique and wonderful way. They have gone through so much, overcoming adversity, including thriving during a global pandemic and have gone through the adventures of this season, the ups and downs, and that's bonded them together. As a team, these women have built resilience, faith and confidence in who they are together and apart, and that's been so, so wonderful to watch. We have enjoyed an extraordinary season, putting up some of the best performances and scores in school history. And while this isn't the way we wanted to close out 2022, I am super proud of what these women came together to accomplish and who they have become during the journey."

This felt very Alabama Softball last year.

Have an outstanding regular season, SECs and cruise into the post-season regionals, beating Supers, making it to OKC... and then just laying an absolute egg within touching distance of the finals.

Alabama Gymnastics Celebrates 2022 Season with Year-End Awards

The Crimson Tide handed out its annual awards during a team gathering Sunday evening

The 2022 Alabama gymnastics team celebrated its season Sunday night during a team gathering.

The last award of the evening and the highest honor bestowed upon an Alabama gymnast each season, The Lewis Each Courage Award, went to Sania Mitchell. The senior leader and floor exercise standout had her season cut short following and injury prior to the Southeastern Conference Championships.

Other awards included:
*Team Captains: Emily Gaskins and Ella Burgess
*Dana Dobransky Dedication to Excellence: Griffin James
*David Dutton Memorial Award: Director of Operations Robin Kelley
*David Desantis Community Service Award: Griffin James
*Newcomer of the Year: Lilly Hudson
*Fern Hampton Academic Award: Mati Waligora
*David Patterson Work Ethic Award: Cameron Machado and Kaylee Quinn
*Penney Hauschild Award: Shallon Olsen

The Crimson Tide finished seventh nationally, making Alabama one of just two schools NCAA gymnastics history, along with Utah, to never finish out of the top 12 nationally. Alabama also finished second at the SEC Championships, continuing its streak as the only school to never finish outside the top four in the conference championships. The team posted a trio of 198 team scores during the season, including a 197.175 at the NCAA Seattle Regional Championships, the highest postseason score in program history and the second best overall.
