Alabama Announces 2022-23 Men’s Golf Schedule

The Crimson Tide slate will consist of four tournaments in the fall and as many as eight in the spring

Fall Schedule Highlights
*The Crimson Tide will open the season Sept. 9-10 when it competes at the Rod Meyers Invitational, hosted by Duke
*For a second straight year, Alabama welcome conference teams to Birmingham for the SEC Match Play event, hosted by Jerry Pate on Sept. 25-27
(Other fall tournaments include the Olympia Fields CC/Fighting Illini Invitational (Sept. 16-18) and the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate (Oct. 21-23)

Spring Schedule Highlights
*The spring campaign opens Feb. 5-6 at the John Hayt Intercollegiate
*The Tide will play an addition four regular season tournaments before beginning postseason play, including the Watersound Invitational (Feb. 19-21), Cabo Collegiate (March 5-7), Linger Longer Invitational (March 19-21) and Mossy Oak Collegiate (April 2-3)
*Postseason play begins April 19-23 at the SEC Championships in Sea Island Ga., followed by NCAA Regionals (May 15-17)
*For a third consecutive year, the NCAA Championships will be played at Grayhawk Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 26-31

Alabama Women’s Golf Unveils 2022-23 Schedule

The Crimson Tide will compete in 12 tournaments throughout the upcoming season, including five this fall and as many as seven in the spring

Fall Schedule Highlights
*The Crimson Tide will compete in two tournaments in September, beginning with the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (Sept. 12-14) and the Mason Rudolph Championship (Sept. 23-25)
Alabama will compete in three of the four weeks during the month of October, beginning at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah, Oct. 10-11
*It will mark the Tide's debut at the event, which is played at the famed Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill.
*The following week, UA will compete at The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State, Oct. 17-18 where the Tide will look to defend last year's tournament championship
Alabama led the event wire-to-wire on the way to a 10-shot victory
Junior Benedetta Moresco finished the event with a program record for lowest 54-hole score (197) and matched the 18-hole school mark (9-under 63) on her way to claiming medalist honors by six strokes
*The Tide will end the fall season at the Landfall Tradition Oct. 28-30

Spring Schedule Highlights
*The spring campaign opens Feb. 19-21 at the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne, Fla.
*The Tide will then travel to Hilton Head, S.C., to compete at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate Feb. 27-March 1
*Alabama concludes the regular season with back-to-back tournaments in March, including the Valspar Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Course in Augusta, Ga., (March 11-12) and the Liz Murphey Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga. (March 24-26).
*The postseason begins April 12-16 at the 2023 SEC Championships, which will be played at the Greystone Golf and Country Club (Legacy Course) in Birmingham, Ala., for the 10th time since 2013
*NCAA Regionals will take place the weekend of May 8-10, while the NCAA Championships will be played at Grayhawk Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 19-24

Alabama Men’s Golf Opens the 2022-23 Season at the Rod Myers Invitational

The Alabama men's golf team will open the 2022-23 season this weekend when it competes at the 12th annual Rod Myers Invitational, which will be played in Durham, North Carolina. Duke University will serve as the host for the two-day, 54-hole tournament.

The tournament will feature 36 holes on Friday and the final 18 will be played Saturday, with all 54 holes being played at the par 72, 7,154-yard Duke University Golf Club.

College golf: Here are 15 men’s freshmen to watch in the 2022-23 season

Nicholas Dunlap and Jonathan Griz, Alabama

The Crimson Tide are adding a duo who could make major contributions early. Nicholas Dunlap was named the AJGA Rolex Junior Player of the Year in 2021, a year where he won medalist honors at the U.S. Junior Amateur, and is ranked third in the Golfweek Sagarin rankings. He also made the semifinals of the 2022 U.S. Junior Amateur. Jonathan Griz, the top recruit from South Carolina was a 2021 U.S Junior Amateur quarterfinalist and finished runner-up at the 2021 Junior Players Championship.

Kynadie Adams, Alabama

Kynadie Adams won two matches in the U.S. Girls Junior in Kentucky. She also finished T-9 in the Polo Golf Junior Classic in June. Adams, from Tennessee, is ranked 11th in the Golfweek Sagarin rankings and could make an immediate impact for the Crimson Tide.

Canon Claycomb, Thomas Ponder Help Alabama to Share of Overall Lead after 36 Holes of Rod Myers Invitational

The Alabama men's golf team carded a second-round score of 7-under par 281 Friday afternoon to vault into a tie for first place after 36 holes of the Rod Myers Invitational. After beginning the day by shooting a 1-over par 289, the Crimson Tide caught fire in round two and is tied with North Florida for the team lead at 6-under par 570 heading into Saturday final 18 holes.

Canon Claycomb (69-71) and Thomas Ponder (71-69) are each tied for the overall lead at 4-under par 140. The duo is among seven golfers tied for the top spot after 36 holes. Nick Dunlap, playing in his first collegiate event, is tied for 13th with a 1-under 143 (74-69), while Jones Free (75-72/147) and Jack Goldasich (78-76/154) rounds out the Tide.

No. 17 Alabama Women’s Golf Tees Off New Season at ANNIKA Intercollegiate

The No. 17 Alabama women's golf team will begin the 2022-23 season Monday morning at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate which will be played at the par 72, 6,410-yard Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn. The 12-team tournament, which will take place Monday through Wednesday, features 10 teams ranked among the top 20 of the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Preseason Top-25.

It marks the second consecutive year the Crimson Tide will open its season at the event, and the fifth appearance for the Crimson Tide in the tournament, which began in 2014.

The 12-team tournament field includes defending champions, the South Carolina Gamecocks. The teams will compete in a five-count-four, stroke-play format, with tee times running 8-9:30 a.m. CT off No. 1 and 8:05-9:35 a.m. CT off No. 10.

Alabama Women’s Golf in 10th After Day One of ANNIKA Intercollegiate

The Alabama women's golf team carded a team score of 303 (+15) and is 10th overall after Monday's opening round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. The Crimson Tide, ranked No. 17 in the nation, is one of 10 out of the 12 teams that entered the event ranked among the nation's top-20, according to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Preseason Top-25.

Benedetta Moresco topped Alabama and is in a tie for 24th overall with a 2-over par 74 on the par 72, 6,408-yard Royal Golf Club course. Freshmen Kynadie Adams and Taylor Kehoe, each making their Crimson Tide debut after stellar prep careers, are in a tie for 35th at 4-over 76.

Alabama Drops a Spot into 11th Overall through 36 Holes of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate

The Alabama women's golf team finished Tuesday's second round at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate with a 10-shot improvement from day one, however, dropped a spot into 11th place overall with a team total of 596 (303-293).

Senior Sarah Edwards led the team after carding an even par 72 in round two, including an eagle on the 345-yard par 4 10th hole – her first hole of the day. Benedetta Moresco continues to pace Alabama after 36 holes played with of 4-over par 148 (74-74) to place her in a tie for 31st overall. She is six spots ahead of Edwards, who will enter Wednesday's final round in a tie for 37th position.

The Crimson Tide, ranked No. 17 in the nation, is one of 10 out of the 12 teams that entered the event ranked among top 25, according to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Preseason poll.

Alabama Closes Play at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate

The Alabama women's golf team finished play at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Wednesday afternoon, closing the three-day, 54-hole event in 11th place with a team total of 892 (303-293-296). The Crimson Tide entered the tournament ranked No. 17 in the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Preseason poll, one of 10 in the 12-team field ranked among the nation's top 20.

Benedetta Moresco paced the Crimson Tide throughout the event as she tied for 26th overall with a 4-over par 220 (74-74-72). It marked her 12th top-30 tournament finish over her last 13 tournaments competing for the Tide. Sarah Edwards tied for 35th overall and finished two strokes back of Moresco with a 6-over 222 (77-72-73)

No. 2 Wake Forest began the day six shots back Virginia for the team lead but carded a 3-under par 285 to come from behind and claim the team title with a team total of 6-under 858. No. 16 Texas finished runner-up (-2, 862) followed by No. 10 Virginia (-1, 863), No. 4 South Carolina (+1, 865) and No. 20 Duke (+1, 865) to round out the top five teams.

Alabama golfers Thomas Ponder and Canon Claycomb finished the day among the top-10 individuals to lead the Crimson Tide during the opening round of the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational (OFCC). As a team, UA is in a tie for 11th overall after 18 holes of play with a team total of 10-over par 290.

Alabama Makes Move up the Leaderboard in the Second Round of the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational

Alabama men's golf carded a team score of 1-over par 281 and vaulted five spots up the leaderboard during Saturday's second round at the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational (OFCC). The Crimson Tide enters Sunday's third and final round with a team total of 11-over par 571 (290-281).

Alabama's moving day total was the second-best score by any team on the day and marked a nine-shot improvement from Friday's opening 18-hole score.

The charge was led by freshman Nick Dunlap, who ended the day with a season-best 18-hole mark of 3-under par 67 in round two. As a result of his 10-shot improvement from the first to second round, the Huntsville, Ala., native jumped 39 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 28th with a 36-hole total of 144 (77-67).

Thomas Ponder continues to lead the Tide as he carded his second straight round in the 60s and is in a tie for sixth overall at 3-under par 137 (68-69). Canon Claycomb also remained among the top-15 individuals after 36 holes played at 1-over par 141 (69-72).
