Getting matched up against the hottest team in the tournament and/or the eventual champion in the first couple of rounds is literally the history of Alabama basketball in the NCAA tournament. We were primed to make a run if we had been put in any other region.

15 points, 4 boards, 1 assist for Collin tonight in a win over the Celtics

Also, Avery took the whole team to the Rockets-Grizzlies game and they sat together. Looked like they were in a VIP section.

Dawkins sent a text to someone that he paid $5000 to Sexton.

The government also provided a text from Christian Dawkins to Munish Sood listing payments Dawkins claimed he made to several other players. "Of the $19,000 I gave 5K to Sexton, 2K to Bowen, 500 to Bazley, 350 to Blossingame," the text read in part.

Ok so just say they find proof that Sexton was paid, what happens to Bama? Wouldn’t we forfeit the tourney appearance and all of our wins that he played in?

Probably, but that's sort of lame. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we sit him until the NCAA told us he was cleared after the Memphis game. If not, why did we sit him that one game?

was that one game an Alabama suspension or an NCAA suspension? I think Ala declared him ineligible, not the NCAA

Yes, we worked with the NCAA. He was ruled temporarily ineligible and sat out the exhibition and the first game. Then the NCAA ruled him eligible and he played. Idk how they’ll handle it if they found something else

I would imagine they may force us to vacate any wins he was a part of but forego sanctioning us unless there is some evidence that our staff was involved in arranging any payments.

pretty disappointing if he took that money....especially knowing he was months away from 7 figures.

Yes it was an Alabama suspension, but my understanding was that it was precautionary so they could make sure he was clear with the NCAA.

It's not like they just suspended him one game as punishment.

Either they checked with the NCAA to make sure he was clear, or they just completely bungled an internal investigation. I doubt they would risk sanctions playing a player they already knew was maybe in trouble without making sure they were good with the NCAA. If not, why suspend him at all?

Honestly, this really doesn’t sound like anything to worry about. At worst, we vacate 20 wins from last year and an NCAA tourney appearance/win.

We’ve already had an incredible advantage in recruiting bc now people know that Sexton came here and went to the NBA. Now we’re getting looked by a ton of elite recruits. Even if the wins are taken away, it was worth it. More good than bad would come from it

More likely, they weren't going looking for infractions, which is a very common compliance strategy. If you don't find problems, you don't have to report them. Have a good source that is Zona's approach with Sean Miller for example

Have to keep in mind that NCAA enforcement didn't have the manpower to investigate before this scandal, they can't handle this scandal.

Why not? Many, many teams took that risk in this. Truth be told, it probably is the smart play with limited downside.

Because Alabama knew about a potential eligibility issue and reported it. NCAA favors proactive steps on eligibility issues and hammers schools who knowingly roll the dice.

Sitting out a borderline exhibition against the North South Directionally Challenged Schools on your schedule is a small price to pay.

It is hard to believe that it is anything more than a slap on the wrist with probation, forfeit games and maybe lose a scholarship at worst

That is a small price to pay for the excitement generated by playing Collin Sexton.

The suspension was proportionate to the cost-benefit of the meal arranged by our staff and paid for by the agent.
