Don't know where all this new information about Sexton is coming from, hence I cannot follow it,but the main issuee here is if our staff was involved in payments to Sexton and his family. It would be a huge disappointment if that is the case. It would be unbelievable.
Would be more palatable if he received benefits outside of his recruitment to Alabama and we knew nothing about or had nothing to do with it.
Sexton image in either scenario would definitely take a huge hit.Very upsetting.

Alabama isn’t being accused of paying him. It’s an agent that isn’t connected to the school as far as I know.

The Sexton family has always been regarded as a family-first, down to earth, “do it the right way” family......if these documents are true, and the whole family was paid, that would be so disappointing

Why on earth would you accept money if you knew you were going to be a millionaire in a few months? Some of these agents can go to hell also.

Sorry my comment wasn’t about the new information, but about the suspension. We fired the staff member for accepting the bribe to arrange the meeting and suspended Sexton for a game since the dollar amount of the benefit equaled a one game suspension. That’s my understanding. I cannot remember the coach’s or agent’s name. Our investigation of that incident found no evidence of money exchange between the agent and the Sextons.

I have no clue what this new information is about. First I’ve heard of it. Is it that same agent that met with the Sextons?

I just hope this means Pett and Ya will take even more precautions when funneling money to the recruits.

Coach K needs to give a seminar at the Hartsfield Jackson Hilton for how to do this stuff.

Eh....so what we forfeit a 20-16 season and NCAA tourney...doesnt matter to me, I still saw it happen.

Our coaches gotta be smarter abot how we pay these guys though.

It's not guaranteed that he would be a millionaire and even if he were guaranteed to be a lottery pick I couldn't blame him. If someone came up to you and offered you 5 grand, you should probably take it in the climate they were in. Back when they took the money this was being done with all top caliber players and there was never any issue with it until now. Especially considering it was just 5 grand, that's typically very easy to conceal.

It's much more than 5000,right? 21000 for traveling expenses,35000 job and whatever else.
My problem with all this is; This Had to happen, just when we are finally trying to get our sorry program out of the pits of misery? What are the odds?

exactly. We lose a 20-16 season and gain a ton of publicity from Sexton being here. Recruits wanna play here now. Even with vacated wins, we still gained more than we lost

Dawkins was essentially the broker for schools to buy recruits via sneaker companies. It likely that any money funneled to implicated players was pay for play

He wasn't a millionaire 1.5 years ago. $5k makes a real difference for most people

But more importantly, why not?

- No one was getting caught
- Every major recruit takes money
- One& Done means you are gone before any investigation starts (See Derrick Rose)
- Generate significant revenue for school, why shouldn't he get some return?

Define trouble

I'd say more likely than not, Bama self imposes some slap on the wrist penalities like forfeit games and reduced recruiting visits type stuff

I've said since the beginning, I don't see the NCAA coming down hard on anyone. It's in their best issue to put this in the past as soon as possible

For the record, I think players should be paid.

If Bruce Pearl and Avery get to make >$2mil based mostly on their ability recruiting talents like Sexton. I think it is Fd up that the NCAA would try to limit Sextons/others earning potential

More to the point, if you are offered a lot of $ to play basketball, you take it. There is no guarantee you'll go pro, or you'll be offered this again

For how much hype there was around this whole scandal, $5k is a pretty meh sum. I mean I would've gone out and bought us a championship team if I had known players of Sexton's level were going for $5k.

Considering clearly lower quality recruits were getting $50k+, there is a real chance that was one payment towards a larger sum

Either way, I don't think most teams should get more than a slap on the wrist

This is just classic economics, if a good is undervalued due to price restrictions, a black market will develop

This is the NCAA fault for designing a broken system

Get Sexton for $5k. Probably can get a good college player without much pro potential like Grant Williams off the dollar menu.
