Collin Sexton a top ten player. Wasn't hard to identify.

He wasn't even ranked when we identified him. He blew up after our staff had already cultivated a relationship with him. That's called good talent evaluation.

Exactly...Collin wasn't even on radar until he came up here for the boo Williams eybl event. But pettway identified him before that.

He is off the radar. I'm sure if any coach in America saw him play they would've notified his ability. If he is such a great judgement of talent why does his son play?

I think most would agree that JR plays too much. CAJ's talent evaluation on the recruiting trail is solid. His in-game subsitution patterns are still a work in progress.

I'm just saying every prospect we've got was a decent rated guy. Not saying he doesn't know his stuff but he didn't find a diamond in the rough.

So your saying that nobody would've noticed Sexton eventually? Sexton was going to be what he was no matter who found him first.

I think he simply meant that he was a bit of a diamond in the rough when they started recruiting him.

Of course they would have. They did. But, our staff discovered him first. Give them some credit.

Speaking of Sexton, I have seen him mocked as high as 10 and as low as 15. If it looks like he will drop to 15, what are the odds he will return?

I mean I see where Tide is coming from... Even if Pettway was the first to see him and offer him, it really shouldn't take much evaluation skill to point out a possible lotto pick even if he hadn't blown up yet.

Can either of y'all explain to me how to tell if a coaching staff has good talent evaluation if that player never blows up? This is like saying Davidson doesn't deserve credit for finding Stephen Curry because it's obvious to everyone how talented he is now.

We identified Sexton before he blew up in HS. We identified Herb when he was a lowly 3-star and not projected as a 2019 1st rd draft pick. We identified Arthur Edwards who averaged 3.9 PPG and shot 22% from 3 at New Mexico the prior season, and was a very solid starter and 40% deep ball shooter for us the next. We identified Galin Smith who was ranked 274th in 247sports composite and who was viewed as a project that looked like a rotation worthy Center in his first year. There's plenty of evidence that suggests this staff has done a very good job of talent evaluation thus far.

Glad you joined conversation. I thought Florida offered before we did. Am I misremembering?

And to piggyback, when the services were saying this time last year that the PG from Bham was a 5* Pettway was saying that’s the kind of evaluation that will get a scout fired.

Yep I don't see where these guys are trying to say... Gongora nailed it about herb and Galin also, echoes what I brought up the other day. This staff isn't perfect but they've been pretty dead on when it comes to identifying prospects.

Jamal Johnson committed to Auburn. Was a Bama recruit that we pushed away and he went to Memphis. Now transferring away to Auburn
