KP rankings right now are almost entirely based on preseason predictors, which really didn't favor us because of all the roster turnover and losing Sears and Nelson.

That, and they really don't like a couple of our key guys. Here's from Torvik, which is pretty similar.

They underrated the hell out of Bol Bowen, Sherrell, and Amari. And they think Bathea is pure garbage.

Here are some of the other current stats.

Who is Big Al holding along with Wimp at the 4:31 mark in the video after we beat Ken in '82 in the tourney in Lexington. Anyone know?

Looks like it could be 1981-1988 UA President Joab Thomas (who also famously chose Bill Curry over Bobby Bowden, after Ray Perkins left)

Holloway is going to make a lot of critics eat crow. He will never be a great defender but he is an absolute scoring machine when he is confident.

We have an insane pair or guards and we havent really seen Bethea yet. We need defense from the 2 spot. But we might be seeing those young guys do their best Herb impression. It will come down to how much the other guys can shoot.

How much do yall think we will see Philon and Holloway together?

All of those models have big blind spots when it comes to freshmen as well as the general concept that player development isn't linear and doesn't happen in a bubble. It's understandable since you have to ask them to make predictions based on actual evidence instead of practice reports, but with the way freshmen are better equipped to contribute than ever before and the annual roster churn they're just going to be wrong a lot.

For TBB and Bathea, it’s incredibly hard for good players on bad teams to have high efficiency numbers. Tougher shots, poor system, teammates not making shots after quality passes, poor box outs, etc.

Low tide lowers all efficiencies

For Amari, I don’t think Torvik does their own scouting. I think they just project how the average #75 prospect does as a freshman (which Amari has outperformed)

I'm interested to see how Oats handles Cluff on Thursday. If you remember, he was with SDSU last year and put 21 and 15 on us in Coleman. More of a traditionally skilled big, which our guys aren't used to defending. We match up pretty will with them outside of that.

Bama catching a bit of a break with not having to face Purdue's best big in Trey Kaufman-Renn.

I’d be surprised if he doesn’t at least play some against us.

It was fun to sit around the St John’s fans and see who they gravitated toward on our team. They love good basketball, so they were inquisitive about our guys. With Holloway the whole section I was in was like “who is this kid? He’s incredible!”

They were high on Sherrell as well. Loved how fast the team was in general.

The guy behind me asked if Williamson was a freshman learning the ropes ouch

Holloway is noticeably bigger this year and it’s helping him finish better at the rim.

TKR will play. He abused us last year. He had Sherrell with 2 fouls in less than a minute. I don’t think their Guards can stay in front of ours tho. We are too athletic for them IMO.

This game is like the St John’s game IMO….if we rebound we will win.

It was awesome! Yes, especially knowing we had a big home football game. There was a point late in the 2nd half where “Roll Tide” chant became audible.

During Oats post game interview I was yelling “WE LOVE YOU NATE OATS!” and he seemed to get a kick out of it and pointed at me. I got very fortunate with some amazing seats. Got some cool pics/videos of Philon, Trelly, Amari Allen and Houston Mallete all pointing over at me cause I was raising hell the end of the game

He fouled out and was completely overmatched against bigger players as has been typical against top teams (I get the refs were bad, but don’t think Holloway was the main issue on those).

He played really well on offense last game and was great to see. However, he played horrible on offense against Duke and FL last year. The biggest issue is that due to his defensive and rebounding limitations, if he has an off night on the offensive end he is a 100% liability all over the court and is totally unplayable. He literally has to have an awesome game offensively to even be a net add. If he’s even just above average on offense, he is a net negative due to being bottom rung on everything else.

I’d love to eat crow on Holloway. I just don’t see how it’s even possible unless he gets a lot stronger and better defensively. He’ll have some good games for sure, but there will be games that if coach doesn’t bench him, we have zero shot to win. Hope Oats realizes it’s one of those games early enough when needed.

I’m ok with him fouling out. I’m honestly ok with more guys fouling out as opposed to giving up easy buckets. Late in the year we’re going to have the type of talented depth that makes it worth it to gamble for a few more steals and getting physical in D.

The only real negative is if we get in a double bonus situation and it takes away from our rebound and go pace. But if they’re going to get a good shot anyway then might as well make them earn it.

He has some bad fouls like slapping or reaching in on the perimeter and may even bear hug a guy. I don't see him not to be able to physically defend, at least better.
