I feel pretty good about playing State. Anybody who can't shoot outside and struggles to score is going to have a hard time beating us.

I'd not choose Kentucky, but whatever at this point. Might as well throw another monkey off our backs this season.

So if UK and State are the only two options, who would you rather play?

We've played them both twice this season and won all four games.

+31 against UK

+13 against State

State

We had open stuff all night against them in Starkville, and they had almost no shot at scoring.

3PFG vs UK = 20/50 40.0%

3PFG vs State = 21/62 33.8%

Yeah, me too - but going 3-0 vs UK would be pretty cool regardless of their record.

State. We know what we're getting with State. Big, physical defense and inept on offense. Someone besides Molinar or Stewart would likely need to have a career night for them to beat us, which is possible but not entirely likely. With Kentucky you just don't know what you're going to end up facing though.

When you coach college basketball, where the majority of players are black and don't get paid, it's impressively dumb and tone deaf to use plantation metaphors. I don't think he meant anything by it, but is just a dumbass.

I'd prefer playing State, for a couple reasons. They're not as talented as Kentucky. Kentucky sucks this year, but could randomly get hot and beat a lot of teams. State also had strong bugs, which is our weakness. And I like the idea of playing a team that isn't very good, but gives us practice against a big weakness. Those kind of games will help us against good teams with good big men (Michigan, Iowa, etc.)

That's the thing. UK knows they have no shot at the NCAAT without winning the SECT, so that concerns me a little bit. They are obviously not a great team this year, their record shows that and we handled them in both games this year. But a team like UK can still be very dangerous when their backs are against the wall in a literal win or go home scenario.

On the other hand, they could also fold up like a cheap tent because they aren't a team with great leadership. I think we should be confident in either matchup, but I do feel a little better if we get State as opposed to UK.

Odd timing after everything that has gone down with that situation so far. I mean I definitely don't think any team with the potential for a deep tournament run is going to vote to fire their own coach a few weeks before the tournament starts, but at the same time I'm not sure the school administration has any business vetoing what the players wanted in this situation. Like, yeah he fricked up but if that kind of stuff is indicative of who he is as a person we'd have heard about it over the last few days.

frick Creighton though.

Yeah pretty much. State is just what they are and nothing more. Even giving us all they have they're probably not going to crack 70, and if they do it's because we sped the game up and scored 80. Kentucky could shite the bed or they could come out on fire. I do tend to think that their complete lack of leadership will become even more apparent in a do or die situation though. So honestly I don't know. I still lean State, but I think we would probably win either game. Our demons against Kentucky need to be exorcised.

Not just when you coach basketball. It's 2021, there is no need to bring up plantations at all in any setting. I'm not sure that he actually meant anything racial by it, but using that as a metaphor at all isn't going to do any good for anyone.

If we win the quarterfinal game against State/UK, it looks like our opponent in the semis could be any one of Tennessee/Missouri/Florida/LSU/Ole Miss depending on what happens Saturday.

I've never heard that expression before but if it's truly an expression I'm not sure how anybody can not hear it and think "I mean clearly slavery".

And to say it to a group of young black kids......sheesh man. What are you doing?

Are we locked into playing the winner of UK/MSU or can that change based on this weekend?

Nope! He's from Greene County. He moved with his father when he was in 6th grade. He went to Keith High School up until his Junior year and then went to Wilcox County high when his dad got the job there as the head coach. Twan is from Union. He's Greene County all day.
