I'd agree with that point as far as roster construction goes. He was way ahead of the curve when it came to a transfer heavy roster construction philosophy that cut all kinds of player development corners. I'm not sure pace of play has changed extensively in the time he was with the Bulls though. It's definitely an interesting theory on why he was so good as Iowa State and has been an unmitigated disaster at Nebraska. Obviously something changed dramatically, and while Nebraska is basketball hell, Ames isn't exactly the Chapel Hill of the upper Great Plains.
Yep, agree. I think the transfer thing is by far the biggest difference. He basically was the first to successfully treat college basketball like free agency. Now it's the status quo.
I mean they might get it going at Nebraska next year, who knows, but so far it's been a total disaster. And Miles was consistently average there before him, so it wasn't like he came in and the program was nuked to oblivion. Miles last 2 years they were 19-19 in the B1G and #47 and #55 in KenPom. Hoiberg is 3-27 in the B1G so far. They'd lost 25 straight B1G games until they beat Penn State yesterday.

That's exactly what is going to happen. You could realistically make the tournament out of the B1G with a sub-.500 overall record at this point. Maryland is 11-10 with a 5-9 conference record and they're the first team out. Like I get that the B1G is a good league, but give me a break.

Yea it's kind of ridiculous. Maryland is 5-9 in league. Their OOC schedule was
#224 Mt St Marys (W)
#184 LaSalle (W)
#183 Saint Peter's (W)
#164 Navy (W)
#150 Old Dominion (W)
#46 Clemson (L by 16)
So, they played 1 single quality OOC game and lost by 16. They then went 5-9 in conference. And they are "on the bubble". They're about to Play Nebraska 2x at home in a row, Michigan State at home and Northwestern on the road. They're gonna end up going 9-11 in the B1G and being like 10 seed.
Ridiculous.

Hall was a game-high +24.

I was about to post the exact same thing. Ridiculous is an understatement. Their OOC schedule was terrible, but I guess they get credit for just playing in the B1G?
WINS
@ Wisconsin by 6
@ Illinois by 3
@ Minnesota by 14
Purdue by 1
Minnesota by 13
Losses
Rutgers by 14
@ Purdue by 3
Michigan by 11
@ Indiana by 8
Iowa by 22
@ Michigan by 24
Wisconsin by 6
@ Penn State by 5
Ohio State by 8
So, their resume is a top 25 road win in December and a 3 point win @ Illinois the first week of January? The top of the B1G is as good as anyone, but these middle of the road and bad teams that get credit for simply playing games is unreal.

Herb Jones on Finebaum, I know..it's Finebaum, but he said his back is about 80%... This kid is something else.

That's what kinda irritates me about it. The B1G in basketball gets even more benefit of the doubt than SEC teams do in football. Their losses aren't really held against them at all, and finishing top 9-10 in the conference all but guarantees you a spot in the field regardless of your overall resumé.

UPDATE: Discussions are still ongoing. The date/time for @alabamambb at Texas A&M and other SEC games could definitely be shuffled around. Nothing finalized yet.

Missouri beat Illinois earlier this year. Outside of Michigan I don't think it's a better conference than the SEC is this year.
