Think back to 2018 and how nice BDS and the football facilities were. Then realize we allotted another $100+ million dollars in upgrades for larger screens and re-updating locker rooms, etc. Blew the budget and went (don't remember the exact number so hopefully i'm not wrong) tens of millions of dollars over to complete everything.

BDS didn't actually need any new bells and whistles, but it was automatically included as part of Phase 1 anyway, because Byrne and everybody else are smart enough to know that the majority of the big money donors are ultimately only concerned about the football program. So if you start asking everybody for donations when BDS is going to be the first place upgraded, maybe you'll get enough money to put a big dent in the Phase 2 budget.

Meanwhile, almost three years later and we still don't even know if we have enough money to begin thinking about gutting and/or razing Coleman. At this pace, we are going to need more upgrades of BDS before we ever get around to the basketball program. That's why basketball fans are getting restless and I don't blame us one bit.

I'm a huge Alabama football fan as well and understand how important facilities are for recruiting and fan experience and all that. I get it. I want BDS to be the best in the conference and the best in the nation. Saban has earned that if he wants it. But i'm equally as big of a fan of the basketball program and it pisses me off that we continuously find ourselves on the outside looking in when it comes to our arena. We are Alabama - our basketball arena should be much nicer than it is. I hope the update that we were promised comes soon.

And just to reiterate, i'm as big of fan of Byrne as there is. I hope he is here a very long time. I believe if he thought he could responsibly build a brand new basketball arena tomorrow he would.

just don’t understand why the conversation always turns to someone complaining about football.

Because Coleman has needed major work or a replacement since 2000, and we just completed another cosmetic update to BDS. Now, the money spent for the last BDS “improvements” would not have covered the cost of the basketball arena,

I get it though. We’ve been dominating college football for 10 years now, and it brings in a ton of money. They’re always going to get priority. But it’s also frustrating to see how awful our arena is compared to the rest of the conference, and had been awful for at least 2 decades now.

Can someone elaborate on this and where specifically I need to go?

The front entrance that faces Paul Bryant Dr. window is likely the one immediately to your right when you walk in.

That’s the front entrance of the coliseum where you’ll see thousands, maybe even millions, of rabid Alabama basketball fans storming the doors to gain entrance. Be safe out there.

Thanks all. I'll probably drink a few in the parking lot before if anyone wants to come say hello

The couple of Saturday afternoon games I went to last year, I parked in the small lot at the corner of Hackberry Lane and Bryant Drive (on the opposite side of Hackberry from Coleman Coliseum). Easy in and out even when the games were full attendance.

Going to the game tmrw, first time at coleman since 2011. Anything I need to know regarding traffic or parking? I remember theres a huge parking lot right there at coleman, can I just pull up and park there?

Yes - with limited attendance there is no reserved parking so the Coleman lot is open to everyone. Note that (surprise!) there’s construction going on - they are putting a road through the far end of the parking lot, so traffic ‘jams up’ for a short while after the game.

You can also get into the lobby without a ticket (but not without a mask). With electronic tickets, I haven’t seen many folks selling them before the games. The stubhub prices have been ridiculously high - current lowest price for tomorrow’s game $175 each - and you have to buy all the tix for the listing (stubhub policy due to the pandemic).

Pretty sure Kentucky football makes more than Kentucky basketball as well. Football is going to make more money than basketball at probably 99% of programs.

From the 18-19 seasons, UK football generated ~170% the profit of basketball, assuming the correct interpretation of data and correct execution of the math. Both are pretty simple.

When we knew this season was limited attendance we should have started construction and played in Foster this season.

Guarantee if Saban wanted to add something to the Football Stadium again Byrne would have the funds tommorow

GAME DAY! (it feels like weeks between games when we are actually good).

Series record, 96-52.
Ala has won 3 of the last 5
series split over the last 10

Go eat at the River, it’s ran by the same guy who owned the Cypress Inn. More upscale and seasonal menu though. Check their website, I think they only have brunch on Saturday.

River as nice atmosphere as well imo, good call.

I'd like to see the bench players get the last 5 minutes today.
