At some point they just gotta sit Herb for 7-10 days. That is, unless he really needs like 4 weeks of rest and anything less is negligible in helping his back. In that case, I guess you just gotta gut the season out.

Stick Herb in a cryo chamber for a week.

Thanks for the sensible words. We do need to think of these players as somebody's kids and how we would react to somebody mocking ours. This is the best season we have had in ages (I'm a 40 plus year season ticket holder) so hope we can all support these players who really are trying.

I've not had any sort of "doom and gloom" feeling about this portion of the season (and still don't, really), but woo buddy I do not feel good about this game tonight.

I'm not melting down. We're not playing that well, but we are playing guys who are banged up and completely missing our big man. Could be much worse.

ETA: And our 2 recent losses are against top 25 teams. Lets just get healthy so we can make a run in the tourney.

The losses were to two top 12 teams actually.

Same way I feel. I think if we can get Bruner back and get Herb healthy that we can be hitting our peak at the NCAA Tournament.

Alabama needs to get Josh Primo back on track. Has scored a combined seven points in his last three games. Crimson Tide are in Columbia tonight to face South Carolina.

It's kind of hard to make any sense of this USC team. Almost impossible, actually. In the past two weeks, they have blowout wins @ Florida and Georgia and blowout losses @ Vanderbilt and State. So, they're capable of beating or losing to good or bad teams, on the road or at home? If anything, you could say that they're consistently sporadic.

At the very least, this version of USC favors tempo (15th - Kenpom AdjT), so we should be comfortable with the pace of play. A lot of the teams we've played recently or struggled with did a good job of dictating the speed of the game. With USC, we should be able to play ball without having to worry about making adjustments and playing in the half court.

This USC team is not very good and I think we win big. Could they beat Bama? Sure. Will they do it tonight? It doesn't seem likely. We didn't make it through that meat grinder of an 11 game schedule to now be worried about playing USC, UGA, ATM, and Vanderbilt.

I am looking at Gary having a great game today. He is going home and his recruitment was hard to digest for Martin.
He will come to play.

SC has had some games with players missing with covid.
They are full force for us.

It's interesting how we have noted that our fast tempo has not negatively effected our defense. South Carolina is a great reflection of the other side of that (and why guys like Frank Martin, who grew up in a certain style, are so adamant not just "let guys run").

2017 - Tempo #145, Defense #3
2018 - Tempo #153, Defense #25
2019 - Tempo #61, Defense #71
2020 - Tempo #17, Defense #50
2021 - Tempo #15, Defense #76

Keep in mind that KenPom numbers are tempo-adjusted - so that defensive number isn't worse because teams have more possessions. It's the efficiency of your defense per possession - and it's drastically worse. They are much worse per possession defensively than they were when they played at a slower pace (and they never played snail pace, just not "fast").

Guys like Martin came up teaching defense a certain way, and that way doesn't really mesh with fast tempo. They've sacrificed their defense for playing fast (and I think they sacrificed their identity, too).

They were at full force Saturday too and they got blown out by Mississippi State.

They're just an insanely erratic team/program who on top of that has had a million stoppages and therefore is even more prone to playing well one night and awful the next.

Our projection has Bama by about 13-1/2 w/ about 151 points being scored

Depending on which book you look at, this game opened in the 8-point range and is currently sitting at a consensus Alabama -6 (157 o/u).

I hope that team shows up tonight. That's the only USC game I've watched this season, and they looked terrible.

I was extremely surprised to see their tempo numbers this year. Admittedly, I haven’t paid much attention to recent USC basketball outside of the FF run, but I remembered Martin’s teams as hard nosed defensive clubs. I was pleasantly surprised to see their tempo and defensive numbers this year, as I think it plays really well into our style.

Maybe we play poorly on offense again and struggle tonight, but until then, I just don’t see this USC team giving us much trouble. We should win by double digits.

Both on the road and both were winnable. The Mizzou game was ugly as hell, but we aren't outmatched against them. Would love to play them again in the SECT.
