There just aren't many guys like that though. If your team's success relies entirely upon having a PG with rare speed and athleticism and you don't coach for Kentucky, Duke, UNC, etc. then you have a problem. Oats recruited most of this roster. He recruited Quinerly. If he doesn't know how to adapt his system to the guys he recruited to play in it that says much more about his abilities as a talent evaluator and coach than it does about them.

Again, call me after season four. Izzo's first two seasons at MSU weren't anything to sing about either.

My biggest gripe.

I know it's his system or nothing else and I respect his moxie for that, but there comes a time when running head first into a brick wall with 60 seconds left in the game isn't the smartest way to get a win.

I don’t see a system in place. This year all I’ve seen is 1 on 1 basketball the same as it was under Avery. Trash basketball. Trash basketball program.

I get what you are saying, but i've been forced into being the posibammer of the thread and even I have a problem with this.

Can you guarantee me that Oats at Alabama mirrors Izzo at MSU?

Because at that point nobody knew Izzo was going to blossom into what he did.

Not an attack on you, but that is highly flawed logic imho.

For every Tom Izzo there are 500 guys who take over a mediocre program, give the fans some stuff to be positive about in year 1, regress in year 2, and get fired after year 4. I'm not advocating that we fire Oats, but this season has raised plenty of red flags and there's no sense in denying it.
