Yes. Oats took over an underachieving, rudderless program that lacked an identity and turned them into a bunch of tough as nails winners with a well defined m.o. in his second year on the job.

So we lose a hard fought battle to Gonzaga in the Final Four and then come back in 2022 and beat their arse in the Final Four en route to the title?

I'll allow it

Yeah I can live with that. Also let's get us some of those #1 ranked recruiting classes.

The two situations really aren’t very similar. Shula left some talent, but with gaping holes. Saban and Oats did both change the culture, but Oats had a good nucleus of talent to work with. And I think because of our senior leadership, we were able to navigate the Covid situation better than teams with younger guys like Kentucky. Not sure we are sitting where we are now in a Covid-less season, but who knows.

I do think we’ll be a force to reckon with most seasons as long as Oats sticks around. They style he coaches is very attractive to recruits.

If we sign Bediako it'll be like #4, right?

Close enough

I'm really happy for the Seniors that bought in. We've all watched them through their ups and downs.

Yeah 3 or 4. Something like that. If we end up pulling Burnett out of the portal and he's immediately eligible I think you could make a strong argument that it's the #1 class at that point even if the recruiting rankings don't reflect it.

I can't imagine how hard that conversation is for Bruner and Oats

Just sucks

Yep...and probably hardest on Oats. Bruner and Herb are light years ahead of the others in maturity, and I'll bet that Bruner made it as easy as he could for Oats...seems to be that kinda guy.

Warm that plane up for the entire 2017 class. They are the worst combination of laziness, mental weakness, softness, low basketball IQ, and low basketball skill I have ever seen.

This program will never be anything until those 3 cancers are gone. We actually thought (yes, I’m including myself here) that this was a program changing group that would put us on the map nationally lol holy shiit were we ever wrong!

I really wish we would stop doing this. It's not the real Final Four by any stretch of the imagination, and the NIT is probably going to be canceled anyway.

From the interview article you posted, an Oats quote...

quote:

So the first question, giving a grade to the game. I mean, look, defensively we were a 1.17. I'm looking at the HDI box score right now, our analytics company, which was not where we needed to be. Our goal was like 1.0.

We have to a 1.17 on defense, which is a bad performance for Bama, and still waxed that arse. But when you get a 1.48 in offense, nobody is gonna beat you on a night like that. Great game, but plenty of room dirt improvement. I bet Oats drives that point for motivation.

You've inspired me to go back to my post history from the terrible OOC run, and I was really searching for answers during the East Tennessee State game:

quote:

I'm not saying this is our #1 problem, but we need better walk on bench hype guys. Every other team's bench always seems much more into it than us.

We also could use better basketball players.

I was actually still reasonably optimistic going into the Ole Miss game, but that's probably because I had scheduling conflicts and couldn't watch a second of the Clemson or Western Kentucky games.
