Now that Trendon Watfords LSU career is over...talk about a bad decision.
Could have stayed home and made a Sweet16, Won the SEC regular and Tournament Championship, ALL WHILE PLAYING FOR THE TEAM HE GREW UP ROOTING FOR. But he decided to take the strong arse offer instead...tough scene

I don't think he made a bad decision. He went where he felt was best for himself. Kid is going to get drafted anyway.

He’s still going to make plenty of money, so his decision wasn’t “bad”. Obviously it was satisfying from a fan’s perspective for him to take the money at LSU, but still get dominated by Bama. But he will cash plenty of checks, so I think he’ll move on pretty fast

So does any team these days feature fast break offense like the aforementioned Lakers team?
Bama is top 10 in tempo. We generally shoot within 14 seconds on possessions.

Are there any dominating low post big men in college basketball this year?
See the Big 10. Though you see a lot more dominant big men in fine basketball than the modern NBA. In football, changes happen in high school and work their way up to the NFL. Basketball is the opposite. Changes occur in the NBA, and work their way down to high school.

Or is it all just live and die by the 3?
It's about high efficient shots. Why shoot from 17' when at 21'it's worth an extra point. Bama, and a lot of successful modern teams, use an analytical approach to offense, rather than just do what's always been done. Compare a Bama shot chart to an NBA shot chart, and hopefully you'll understand why. The higher the average points per possession, the heater likelihood you'll win.
And with our team's style mirroring an NBA shot chart, we're a team that NBA prospects will love to play in. Analysts love to talk about our crazy offense and live and die by the 3. But there's nothing original about what Oats is doing. It just hasn't worked it's way into college yet. But it's pretty much inevitable that it'll go eventually become the norm, not the exception.

And post-Western Kentucky we did stink

As much as this term annoys me, I think it pisses Oats off more. He's said anyone who says that (about Bama) doesn't know what they're talking about, and he's right.
Oats' teams live and die by layups, free throws, threes, and defense. The only thing he avoids is the most inefficient shot in basketball- the long two.
Anyone who thinks bama lives and dies by the three, should compare their at the rim numbers with that of other teams. They obliterate teams by the three, when they're falling at a high rate, but that's not what they depend upon.
This is not pointed at you, CCTider. I know you were just responding to someone else.

yeah. I could see that. They're relatively small and fast. It appears that they would be entirely capable of finishing that fast break by going to the basket, but often as not they kicked it back out for a 3 pt shot.
Reading the Rant I see that Michigan has a couple of big guys. Will be interesting to watch them to see what type offense they run.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but 4 of the 16 teams that are still in are two 11 seeds, one 12th seed and a 15th seed.

Still trying to process the fact that we played better last night with Herb on the bench.

I think some of it was just coincidence, but I do think a lot of it was the fact that Maryland packed the lane because of their weaknesses defensively.......and because of that our best lineup was a probing JQ and 4 shooters prepped to catch and shoot. Herb works a lot better offensively against spread out defenses where he can drive and cause them to collapse and then either power in or make a good passing decision. Maryland was already packed in so he really didn't have much of a role.

but they certainly were a better defensive team than early season LSU.
Early season LSU's defense was hilariously bad. They became much better at guarding the perimeter as the year went on.

The better talking heads are starting to understand that we aren't just chucking 3s for the sake of chucking 3s and that our offense is a lot more than 5 guys taking the first outside shot available to them.

It sounds cliche but the biggest difference was they just collectively decided to give effort on that end of the floor.
They were still pretty bad when teams made them work, but they actually decided to give max effort on that end and with their athletes that alone makes them at least competent.

Looking back at that moment, it was hard to believe we'd eventually be sitting at 26-6.
If back in December, someone would've said we'd go from 4-3 to 26-6, I would've laughed at them and call them a Gump.

And with good reason. We sucked. It wasn't bad luck or anything, we just weren't very good.

Yep. Especially since they've been letting them play down in the post. This Tournament has had more banging down low than a Ted Haggard meth fest.
