JQ will take some mid-range shots that Oats hates on occasion if he's feeling it, but even those aren't "bad" shots. They're just inefficient shots. We almost never take bad shots.

I obviously haven’t watched all of Reese’s shots over the last four years in a continual loop - it just seems to me to have gotten flatter and flatter.

But “seems to me” could be wrong.

The only guy who takes some bad shots is Petty, but to be honest his shooting % on bad shots is just about as good as "good shots".......so are they even really bad shots? He gets to his spot with his release pretty much the same off the dribble, pass, step back, etc the same way. It's just whether that release point is good that day or not.

It seems like Oats & Co would correct such an obvious and major flaw like flat shooting.

I mean in theory sure, but he would probably need to spend an offseason working on it and it would be easy for him to revert to what is natural.

His shot is extremely flat and, to some extent, always has been. I think it’s gotten flatter as he’s been here, but I haven’t really looked at any of his earlier game footage so I could be wrong.

For every guy like Reese who has not improved as a shooter, you have a guy like Herb who has. Win some, lose some I guess.

And Reese has improved basically every other part of his game.

AP recognizes selections from all three teams (the Top 15 players nationwide) as “All-America.” For the rest of his life, he is All-America forward Herbert Jones. Alabama’s first since Erwin Dudley in 2002.

There is so much to love about the NCAA Tournament. From the preseason speculation to the buildup of the bubble watch, the buzzer beaters, the upsets and ultimately crowing a National Champion. It is as great of an event as there is in all of sports.

While everybody involved is working together towards the common goal of winning a title, March Madness is also extremely important on an individual level because it provides an additional chance for those with aspirations of playing on the next level to audition in front of NBA scouts.

Each and every year we see players NBA stock rise and fall as teams make deep runs or bow out early. Looking ahead to this year’s edition of the NCAA Tournament there are once again many players whose Draft standing could be greatly improved by the exposure that they could get with a strong March run.

Let's look at a group of players who will have an opportunity to boost their stock over the next few weeks.

quote:

HERBERT JONES, F, ALABAMA

Stats: 11.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

Projected Draft position: Mid to late second round.

First opponent: Iona.

Bossi’s take: Alabama has been one of the best stories in college basketball this season as Nate Oats fun and gun offense is very entertaining to watch. Guard John Petty is one on the team who I could see improving his stock in the coming weeks because of his shooting and ability to defend. But, the more I watch the Crimson Tide the more I’m convinced that Herbert Jones is the heart and soul of that team.

A long and wiry strong forward, Jones is probably a bit of a tweener at the NBA level and he’s not exactly the world’s greatest jump shooter. But, Jones has made more three-pointers as a senior than his first three years combined. The real story is his willingness to make winning plays and his defensive versatility. As any fan of the NBA knows, outside of a few stars on each team, it is all about being able to play a specific role and there’s little doubt that Jones could see teams fall in love with his ability to be a low maintenance and reliable defensive player with upside as he continues to improve on the offensive end.

The 6 p.m. deadline for replacement teams has come and gone. Louisville has not been contacted, per a source, meaning the bracket is now locked. NCAA will not be putting out a statement tonight; this will be official tomorrow when Dan Gavitt briefs the media on a Zoom call.

Virginia (and all teams) are not yet in the clear, though, of course. Keep in mind teams need to continue to produce negative tests in order to avoid potential contact-tracing pitfalls. UVA is still not in Indianapolis; its players won’t leave quarantine until Thursday.

The Hodgson/JQ embrace when Hodg tells him:

"You took a chance on me, dawg."

And teary eyed Petty just screaming "YEAH" over and over.

All of it is so awesome.

I haven't really noticed a difference in Reese's shot.

He almost never takes a shot on the 3 line. It’s always 3+ feet beyond the arc. I wouldn’t be surprised if his average 3 depth is the highest in the team.

Probably has something to do with his low percentage.

Fellas,
There's ONE group of folks that should get credit for this miraculous season, and that's the coaching staff! Coach Oats has earned the respect of EVERY Alabama sports fan for putting together his staff, and regardless of where this season ends, we owe them the credit!
